Anyone dyno test the TST PM3

I have a 2001 automatic and and want to get a pacbrake for towing reasons. But I am confused as to if I have to install a TC lockup device for the brake to function.

I know I have seen many folks install them as pairs, but will the brake provide any benefits without the lockup device?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

You do need the lock up controller that they make. the converter needs to lock up or you will trash it.

Problem with the switch, if you forget to turn it off coming to a stop you CAN trash your transmission. I would stick with a controller.

I have Pac-Brake on my 2001. Works great but I wouldn't have it without a controller. If TC doesn't lock up the brake doesn't retard well. Once brake is engaged and retarding all the load goes to the transmission (I'm told) and TC must be locked up to prevent overheating and overloading. That said, based on my limited experience, you may not want an exhaust brake in a 2001 with a stock TC and valve body. I've heard some real horror stories of transmission failures and if you check the TDR forum you'll see that most owners who have a auto transmission plus brake have installed an aftermarket beefed up TC and valve body. Excessive failures was one reason why Dodge didn't warrant trannys on older trucks with brakes. I like my controller because I can change the engagement speed to suit my driving conditions, pulling weight and road grades. I normally pull 12,000 lbs.
