My Pacbrake doesn't seem to engage all of the time since the weather has gotten cold. Also, my air leaks horribly since the cold arrived. My compressor is running almost non-stop and I'm afraid it's going to burn itself out. Anyone else having the same problems? What can I do to fix them?
 
take a windex bottle and start finding all your air leaks. fix them first, cause they won't get any better in the cold weather. that's the best starting point.
 
Whenever you compress air you are going to create moisture, which will freeze when the weather changes. Over the road trucks have an air dryer incorporated into their systems, and also air tanks that have bleeders on them that you are to drain daily to keep moisture out.

I'm surprised that there is not a drain included for the bottom of the air tank...



I'll be installing one in the next couple of weeks.



My compressor runs every morning, but if my truck sits for 4-6 hours it does not. I've tried to locate the leak, but it's too small for me to detect



My PacBrake does weird things from time to time, but I think it's the commands it receives from the ECM. Blipping the throttle in neutral (or even in gear) actuates the brake 2 or 3 times, as if there's a "bounce" in the signal.



I've heard of something similar happening with locking the torque converter and also actuating nitrous on a dyno at WOT. The TPS signal "bouncing" and causing some unexpected results.
 
Air leaks and dirty air are the big issues here... your compressor has an intake filter... they can be cleaned and replaced... .

If you intend to put a drain in the tnak make sure that the drain is the lowest point... .

Air leaks... . more than any other item will cause the compressor to run more than necessary... If you over tighten the compression fitting it can leak... We put a drop of oil on the fitting at the time of assembly, and finger tighten the fitting and than about a 1/4 turn more with a wrench..... too much and the fitting will crush and leak... once it crushes and leaks you need to cut the tubbing shorter and replace the fitting... .

Thanks for all of the info. I just checked the air filter and it was clean. I did not know about only tightening fittings 1/4 turn past finger tight. I was told to go as tight as you can. Looks like I'll be re-doing all of my compression fittings.

I just don't get what would cause the brake itself to not engage. My thought was a frozen solenoid.

If I were to install some type of inline air dryer (if possible), where should I locate it and where can I get one?

I'm going through the same thing every motning it would take longer to engage I thought that the compressor was going bad now it won't engage at all. calling Pacbrake after lunch time.
 
I just got done trouble shooting with Harold at Pacbrake he had me take the brass filter off of the cylinder wile the brake was on. Air was coming out so he said that the cylinder was bad and is sending one UPS no problems, just call them
 
Sprayed all of my air fittings with windex yesterday. No leaks. I guess I'll take the brass filter off of the cylinder to check that and then call Pacbrake. It's the brass filter on the silver cylinder itself, right? Thanks.
 
I have had the same Proplem, for over 3 Years when Temps are 3* or colder. My solution was to drain the tank when extreme Temps. .

Well, I had sprung a leak on my PAC brake and I couldn't believe I didn't notice it or at least hear it before from the size of the leak. The quick-disconnect air line fitting on the compressor to air up tires and what not was leaking. I sprayed all my connections and after pressurizing the system it sounded like a serious tire leak it was so bad. Replaced the QD and no more leaks or excessive running of the compressor. Anyone else have a faulty connector like this??

This is the same place that I had a problem with air leaking. I was driving around for a few hours one night and the compressor must have overheated and quit working. The next morning I check for leaks and found that the quick-disconnnect was letting all the air out.
 
Pacbrake tests

The brass filter is on the silver cylinder connected to the brake itself, with the filter off it should not be blowing air with the motor running and the brake turned on. Also I was told you can check the air compressor by disconecting outflow fittings and see if you can stall the compressor by plugging the hole with your finger, I couldn't not even close so the air part was ok, but the seals were gone or something in the cylinder. my parts should be here today I hope. The people at Pacbrake are more than Happy to help with our problems @ 1 800 663 0096
 
Turns out it was my quick disconnect. Replaced it and leak is gone. It still loses about 25 psi overnight, but I can deal with that untill the weather warms up a little and I can find it. Thanks for the help every body!
