PacBrake question

Jelag helped me out by letting me know about the Lube for the exhaust brake after I was told by the Pacbrake "Warranty God" that I had to buy a new unit. Even though the one that I had only had about 20K on it because it was worn out and, of course, out of warranty. Still running that brake today and it works sweet.



Now, that's two nice things that have been said about you Jelag.

i keep seeing the banks comparison sheets on the 4 big brakes for our trucks, can anyone please advise me of what the truch is? i know air vs vacume, but what is the best brake to run on "our" trucks? thanks

I can't speak for the other guys... I wish those who are interested would look at their web sights... . and sort of read between the lines. . Only 2 that I know of sell OEM... PacBrake and Jacobs, and those also do all their in house engineering and manufacturing... . I don't know about the other guys... .

I know that both, PacBrake and Jacobs used to offer units installed at the OEM level on the engines for trucks before the engine manufactures offered their own products...

I know that the pacbrake unit will drive air horns, air bags, and will allow you to air bike tires for your kids and in my case grandkids when we travel... I've also used the air system to add air to the air bag on my 5er hitch... .

I know that PacBrake does a huge government and military business for Cummins and CAT engines used in military trucks... .

I know that through the years we've done some warranty work mostly RV's that didn't have their unit installed correctly by the body builder... . but our whole warranty work for PacBrake can't exceed 1 or 2 % of our sales including the stuff we do for the RV industry... .

In my business we run a truck for 500K miles... in the past 15 years I guess we've gone through 10 - 12 trucks and most of them have gone to the auction with same unit we installed when it was new... . on the old painted units we've had to pull them and clean them, but the new nitrate units have been trouble free... I currently own 4 Dodge trucks... all with a pacbrake except the 08 6. 7L

I'd be happy to answer specific questions about the pacbrake... . Oh yea, we had a program to discount pacbrake on a Jacobs take off because of their vacuum pump problems, but that offer is gone... .

Pacific Clutch and Brake gave me a sweet TDR discount and also outstanding customer service. Had a warranty claim and they stood behind it 100% and then had some tech glitches with a new valve body & torque coverter interface with the controller and again 100% stood by me and their product. I was also treated right when I ordered some air bags from them. Check some of my posts about the brake and see the how Jelag was there with help and good customer service.

what lube and where mine hangs now and then til i throttle it for a sec or 2

got it when bought my truck new

btw i had a vac unit jacobs and a pac on my 2nd gen(both kind cause i did so turbo swaping) and braking was the same but the pac was WAY faster and it was way better eng braking the this 03 in my 2000 if i hit it at 2700-2900 in 2nd gear (to be an arse) it would chirp the rears 4-5times bouncing them while there decelaration

2nd gen imo was way better for me

If your brake was painted, there is a lube for the butterfly to help it function and not get gummed up with dirt/rust... if your brake is not painted its nitrated and that finish usually doesn't need the lube... . however we do put a drop or two at installation just to be safe...

The ECM has a 1-2 second delay so that the fuel system can reduce the fuel pressure to idle condition before the brake comes on. . could this be the delay you see... if not... I need a better example of your problem to help... .
