I still got no response from them. It seems my actual brake is getting stuck, then when it activates once, it's okay for the next use. Wait a while and it gets stubborn again. I can hear my foot switch click, then a few seconds later the brake comes on, sputter on and off a few times then either stay off or on?????

Have you disconnected the piston and moved the butterfly to see how freely it moves? You might start there. Call Piers and talk to him. He probably knows more about it than PacBrake themselves... ...

Does anyone think that frequency of use can have an effect on the PacBrake? I am having one installed at this moment, and all this talk of stuck Pac Brakes is scaring me a little. I just wonder if you use the Pac Brake frequently, will it allow less buildup of sludge and therefore less chance of sticking?

Took my brake off today. I only have about 10k on it, been in since Jan04. The butterfly valve is out of round or warped, it sticks big time at full closed, makes a scratching noise when you try to open it back up. And is obviously hanging up at that point, that is what is making the chirp when it finally opens back up. So anyway called Pacbrake today and they say I have a defective unit and with no ?'s asked they are sending me a new one. I do realize I am still in the 2 yr unlimited miles warranty, but I thought I would be asked a million ?, in my opinion this was good customer service, at least in my experience.

UPDATE- Well I got a new throttle switch... ... guess what, it doesn't even come near the back of my gas pedal, like the spring thing doesn't contact it at any position I try. So I put the old one back on that works only when it's nearly pointing straight up the back of the pedal. Works better now, but when I use it sometimes it will come on for a while then flutter off then on again. Now I don't know what it could be, but is it possible my pedal is loosening, or even my throttle cables? Any other suggestions? Help!

Kalaehina,

You might try to rig a little LED light so you can tell if the solenoid valve has power to it or not when it is acting up. Connect it to the 12 volt side of the solenoid. That will help you to decide if the problem is electrical or not.

From your description I think you have the pedal switch installed wrong. Can you take a picture of it and post it?

My Dad had some problems with his pac brake. Most of it was related to the underhood switch. He called pac brake and they sent him (for free) the parts needed to use the ECM to trigger the brake. Then he had a sticking problem. He cleaned the rod and used some "tri-flow" lube on it and the problems are gone. I suggested the tri-flow to him as I had used it on my mountain bike and it does not collect dust like other lubes.

Good luck with your problem.

Thanks guys for the advice, Joe, I thought I had it installed wrong too, but I checked the instructions and it's correct. If I can get a good shot tomorrow I'll post it and maybe you guys can give me some other advice. Thanks!
