I just installed a jake e-brake on my buddys 02 and took it for a drive and could not believe how much more braking it had over my pacbrake on my 98 12 valve. whats up with that. I hate to spend the bucks to get a jake if i don't have to, and wonder if mine is out of adjustment or what. thanks

Pac Brake differences

I recently purchased a PacBrake for my auto '96, that was originally for a stick. Before I bought it, I contacted PacBrake and this is what they told me: The holes in the butterfly is the difference between the two transmissions. On the stick, the holes are 31/64"; on the automatic they are 9/32". To use the stick ex. brake on an auto, you will lose approx. 5% retarding power is all. If you want to up the holding power, then they suggested welding the one hole shut (blunt hole, not the chamfered one) then redrilling it to 9/32" or weld it shut and redrilling alongside. With the stock 12V springs, and the PacBrake, this setup is good to 11,000lbs towing per PacBrake. When you upgrade to 60lb springs, you plug the chamfered hole and leave the "blunt" hole open. With both holes open and stock springs, there is no chance of floating a valve per PacBrake, plus providing adequate holding power. .



Just curious do you have stock springs? and if you have upgraded your springs What holes are open?



As always it good to check with the manuf.
 
I have 60 lb springs or at least i paid for them when i had a pac brake dealer install the unit right after i bought the trk. in 97. Never looked at the holes but guess i will.
