Thinking about planning one of these for next year. Looking at Wyoming, Yellowstone or Teton. With fuel prices what they are maybe stay closer to home in Colorado, Montrose, Durango or Colorado Springs. Anyone done it, pros, cons.

I have found several outfittters and the prices don't seem too bad. Besides the time on horseback it looks like a great getaway.

I have never packed in, but both Montrose and the Yellowstone (thoroughfare from the east side) are great areas. Make sure you check the status of CWD if you decide to go with a CO hunt. I dont remember it having traveled down to Montrose yet, but certainly up around Craig and other parts north and east. But it wouldn't stop me from going. . just something to be aware off, talk to your guide about. Yellowstone is the real deal, other than alaska, most Elk range have Bear, Yellowstone has Grizz.
I can almost hear the canvas tent fluttering in the breeze now, sound like a blast!

How bout trout fishing? Will be in South Fork, Creede and on Lake San Cristobal out side Lake City in Sept. First time to go fishing in Co and really looking forward to it. No fly fishing though me and dad have never got the hang of it. Any tips or suggestions? Cleaning and cooking tips, do's and don't?
