I'm wiring up my aux fuse block that I bought from Genos awhile back, and I thought I'd ask here if people are doing anything special when they do this sort of thing.



What I want to do with the feed lines from the battery (it has two) is use 20 amp circuit breakers instead of 20 amp fuses. I have the breakers, but I don't have anything to cover up the terminals, and they seem pretty vulnerable. Anyone have any pointers to some kind of boots I can use to protect these?



Also, if you installed one of these, where did you locate it?

Which fuse block???
usually 1 power lead is , well, power. Goes to battery or some other constant Voltage, The CB is ok, but I prefer a fuse . CB's can cycle
when there is a short ot overload, drive you nuts...
Also 20 amp seems low. Should exceed total amp draw of attached
circuts,
Now the other power lead is to control the relay on the fuse block
( assuming that is the kind you have ), It shoud be fused
, Low current ? 2 amps ) and go to a ign on circuit... .

If non of this applies , my guess is wrong on fuse block, disregard. .


AND, I mounted mine on top of the under hood fuse panel cover.
 
The aux fuse block I'm talking about is the Painless CirkitBoss from Genos. This particular type is really two fuse blocks in one--the intention is for half of them to be constant hot, the other half hot only when the key is on.

I believe you're right about the 20 amp seeming low--the more I think about it the more I think it's 40 amp for each side. I actually ordered this from Genos the summer before last and never got around to installing it, so I'm a little fuzzy on some of the details for it.

I hadn't thought about mounting on the stock fuse panel cover. That's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for--thanks.

I installed my Painless wiring kit on my 01 on the left side near the hinge for the hood. I mounted it vertically. It is easy to get to and any unused wires are just tucked down along the left side out of the way.

Wiring

I've been dealing with wiring of all different types for quite some time now. Mostly dealing with warning lights, radios, sirens, etc in emergency vehicles and in my own personal vehicle. One of the very first things I use is a high amp circuit breaker just a few inches away from the battery. My truck has a BUSS 80 amp manual reset circuit breaker about a foot away on the firewall, connected with a 6 gauge wire. This will prevent a major arc, major power surge, or major anything from smoking your wire harness and/or relays or other accessories you may have on down the line. The manual reset also has a button that allows you to trip and shut off power from the harness immediately. While Im not using the Genos wire harness, its pretty much the same thing. I also use a heavy duty cole-hersee battery cut-off switch to turn everything off. While this may not be needed with yours, I do it just to shut everything off thats related to the warning equipment/radios. Below is a pic of some of my work the third pic is the inside bottom of the console. the big wires are coming out of the heavy duty switch at the top left of the picture. In the bottom picture you can see the switch mounted to the side bottom of the console. Just a little extra. Hope it helps someone.
