Pocket Dyno from Geno's?

I'm all but set to order the painless wiring seven circuit harness and neaten up my misc accesories that are all piggy backed onto the batteries with those cheap crimp on power rings. My question to those that have them is - are they a beefy unit? What is the guage of the battery lead, and what are the fuses that come with it if any? What guage will it accept in it's outputs? Most of the stuff I'm doing is 12g but my amp is at least 8g. Does it look like it will stand up to the underhood environment? I will be running in excess of 75 amps of auxiliary lighting, among other things, off this thing and I need to know if it is up to the job. Thanks for the input.

BTW, does anyone know of a source of ignition switched power in the engine compartment that's handy? That way I wouldn't have to fish through the firewall to tap a fuse. On the other hand, is there really any need to have any of the circuits ignition switched?

I dont think it will satisfy your needs. I just installed one in my truck, under the dash but they do make a weather resistant one for under the hood. The main power lead from the battery is 10 gauge wire with a autoreset 30 amp breaker. All fuses are 20 amp but the total draw still cant exceed the 30 amps of the breaker. The supply wiring from the fuse block is all 14 gauge. Sound like will the power consumption you plan on having you may be better using relays off the batteries triggered by an ignition source through switches.

I used a painless kit for the TPI in my 78 Vette. Good quality, but the wires are loose, so you have to wrap them yourself.

I just used their light wiring kits for my auxilliary lights. It seems to be pretty good quality. The switches are real nice illuminated ones... . CJ

Articat,

I also have one in my truck. WeirCummin's description and assessment match mine. I also don't think it will work for you for the same reasons he does.

I would also be interested in finding a place under the hood where I can get a signal (+12 volts) when the ignition switch is in either the ON or ACCESSORIES position.
