Has anyone tried installing a Painless Wiring Kit on their '03 yet?

I am thinking about installing one on mine for the electrical accessories when it gets in, but have no idea where it would fit.

I may have a more difficult time installing the dash mounted air bag controls and gages. There's not much room for installing goodies.

I was just checking out the painless site myself and was a little disappointed to see they don't have anything that uses the same mini fuses our trucks use. Does anybody know where to get a fuse holder that use the same size fuse ours use?

I ordered the painless unit and expect to receive it tomorrow. I sure would like to find out where others have installed it. The fact that it uses a different size fuse did not cross my mind when I placed the order. It definitely would be nice if it did but on the other hand it doesn't bother me too much. Kinda like not all light bulbs are the same.

Painless Wiring Kit

I installed mine already... you do need some creativity to find the right spot. I mounted mine on the inside fender wall to the rear of the passenger side battery. I lengthened all fused wires, stuffed them in 1/2" conduit, and routed them across the top of the firewall to the driver's side. There is a wiring compartment on the top of the firewall which I used to secure all the wires to the other side of the engine bay. It was a tight fit but I got it buttoned up. I haven't used my new wires yet but I'm pleased with the install. There is a nice hole in the firewall in front of my clutch pedal which I'll use as the pass thru point. I ran out of daylight and haven't hooked up the ignition hot wire to the stock fuse box yet... that's all I have left. I hope this helps.

Karl,

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like a good place to install mine when the truck gets in.

Since you installed yours out under the hood, did you use the waterproof model?

Bill

Bill,

I did get the waterproof model (#70207). I also failed to mention that I'll need to hop inside my engine compartment if I ever need to change a fuse :D

Karl

Karl,

Thanks for the info.

I have a Painless Wiring Kit on my '00 mounted under the dash behind the knee bolster and never had to replace a fuse or any other problems with it in over 3 years. I used a Littlefuse Add-A-Circuit in the fuse panel to power the relay on the PWK in this truck---no taps/splices into the factory wiring.

Going under the hood to replace a fuse would be easier and quicker than removing the knee bolster on my '00 3500.
