I've only driven my '03 5000 miles now and the bottom half of the truck is riddled with paint chips. I put mudflaps on the day I bought it and I think that helps a little. My buddy's '02 chipping was much worse with larger chips. He ended up spraying line-x on the bottom half of the truck. It looks good but costs $$$.

I was putting on a coat of wax yesterday (so my protective layer of winter dirt won't scratch it as easily!) and dented the fender with a three pronged extension cord! Poor paint and easily dented sheet metal. What's amazing to me is that my Tundra rarely scratched, chipped or dented even after I put 40,000 hard miles on it.

My driving habits have not changed and, yes, I do live in Colorado with lots of gravel on the roads and drive muddy backroads hunting but this truck is chipping and denting far easier than the Toyota.
