Where's the best place to buy spray paint for the gauge pod? Also, I bought an Isspro EV pyrometer. Which tap should I use? The set I bought from Sears includes a 1/4 x 20 and 1/4 x 28. Thanks.

WCJP,

To match your gauge pod to your interior, stop by your local interior shop and they should be willing to dye or paint it for you. I left my interior fuse cover with the place where I had mine done so they could match the color. A couple day turn around and reasonable. Very professional looking. Hope this helps, -Ken

You can get a small can of spray paint from yout dealer. It cost less then $10. Just give them the interior paint color (the gray is called "agate") and they can order it for you. If they tell you they can't find it in their parts catalog, they aren't looking hard enough, as it is a standard item. Have fun... :)

If you have a spray gun or know someone that can spray. You can also have vinyl dye mixed up at your local DuPont dealer. Check around your local auto parts stores to find one that handles DuPont products.

The part # for agate paint from Dodge is 82201399

The 1/4x20 and 1/4x28 sounds like machine thread, not taper pipe thread. I think you'll need either 1/8" NPT or 1/4" NPT, my thermocouple was 1/4" pipe thread but Ive heard of 1/8" also.

I went to our local auto paint store and matched my interior color with a generic brand paint. While the color is close, it's not perfect, but I believe you would have to have it in just the perfect light to see it. Also the correct tap will be 1/4NPT. To tap this hole you need to stop tapping 6-8 threads from the top of the tap. I believe the correct tap drill size is 7/16.

I think if you look close the A post covers are not actualy the same color as the rest of the interior, and the dodge paint doesn't quite match exactly either but does look fine.

All this applies to my 99 agate interior, I know nothing about other years and colors. FWIW the Dodge paint went on very nicely compared to most rattle can paint I've used.

I just painted and installed the A pillar pod. The interior color in my truck is Taupe. Do not buy the Taupe paint. Get the Natural Light Beige. It is a perfect match. Pillar is lighter than the rest of the interior.

There is a base spray to use on the raw plastic part PRIOR to spraying the interior color paint. It is a clear coat that is supposed to improve paint adherence to the pillar gauge pod. I used it on mine and have had no paint problems, but then again those who didn't use it may not have had problems either. In any case, clean the gauge pod thoroughly to ensure no molding release agent is still on the part as it makes a pretty effective PAINT release agent as well.
