I just had my '02 3500 hood and roof repainted for $778. Looks great. Mine wasn't peeling; just tuned white. My '93 is doing the major peeling; I'm just touching it up with rattle can until I am ready to patch hail dents and repaint the whole thing. I think I'll paint it either bright yellow or a bright red-orange.

I'm sorry to read of all the problems. However, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone!:) My hood and roof are pretty well toast!
I've had several cars and trucks painted-- a six-year-old '69 Mercedes 220D, two-year-old '79 Toronado (failed paint, re-done with Imron), '78 Malibu, '83 Chevy truck (had it done twice in 10 years, failed paint both times). In addition, had some special interest cars done-- '57 Studebaker Golden Hawk (Imron), '54 Chev five window pickup (Imron), '69 Camaro Rally Sport Convertible (lacquer). Five of these were by the same shop (the Imron). Two were done by "back-yard" types. Along with some of the others, I can say you get what you pay for!

I am a firm believer in that saying "you get what you pay for". This is definitely going to get costly because my rear bumper is rotted really bad, and I really love the look of those aftermarket hoods. I would really like to keep this truck for as long as I can. So I think its worth investing the cash into her.

Check these links out on painting the car/truck yourself. It is a very long reading, but imho worth it.

I have a 94 with peeling hood and a 76 Datsun 280z waiting to be painted. 76 is going to be a guinea pig.

If doing yourself or having it done don't be in a hurry to get your truck back quickly. My truck was gone for nearly a month. For my truck the bed was moved back, fenders, windshield, all door trim, seals and anything else was removed.
