The paint job on my 93 dodge (Hood & roof area) has all but turned white the last couple of years. Has any one else had this problem. I though the heat from the Diesel engine was causing it but the roof is the same way. The rest of the truck paint is all right , even the fender area next to the hood. Has any one else had this problem.

Just give it time... In a short time all of the paint will start to bubble and then flake off. It always starts where the truck gets the most UV light. I know many guys that have had this problem with their 1st gens. Just one of the setbacks of owning suche a great truck.

. . my '92 is currently in the paint shop for a complete (except inside of bed) paint job. I mean, grind it down to bare metal and start over.
Not uncommon, I am told.

You can thank the EPA for that. . In the late 80's they just about banned all the good paints and had manufactures go to a low VOC paint. Late 80's and early 90s were not good times for manufacture paints. Most manufactures had problems with their paints. It usually starts on the upper surfaces i. e. hood, roof and trunks as a fade then oxidation and then it starts peeling off.

It's not that much better today. Todays paint if they last 5-6 years that's pretty darn good.

The only solution is to take it to a shop and have it taken down to bare metal and reshoot it, including the primer.

If your the original owner, you might try calling Chrysler direct and just be a real Sh*thead and you might get them to repaint it, but I doubt it. Although a friend of mine was successful (after I repainted mine at my cost). I guess he was a bigger &*^*head then I was.

Good luck.

Yeah, I had the same problem with my '91, except the paint started coming off on the passenger side bed. Just in that area, no where else. It's getting a fresh paint job right now. I heard it was a manufacturing flaw... bad paint and primer.

. . I pulled off the plate on the tailgate that has a large reflective red stripe and the letters DODGE on it prior to taking it to the paint shop. What was left was 8-10 holes in the tailgate. I like the look of the rear of the truck better without the panel but don't know how to cover up the holes. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks... .

93' DODGE MAN:
Turning white eh? i dunno, my paint is already all white... hheehe... but i did have the bed quarter panel on driver's side peel like heck. . had to have it repainted. . tailgate also got kinda faded. I 've seen lotsa first gens with this problem. Best bet is to use some "Aircraft Stripper" to take the rest of it off and get it to bare metal then have a shop spray it for you. Good Luck!

. . my truck's back from the 2 week stay at the paint shop. Paint looks better than new! (It IS better than new). With a new paint-to-match grill.
Time to get busy with the mechanical upgrades. .
