Does anyone have a contact for where to get some good quality PG8 paint? I am going to do the bed and pass. door sometime this spring.
Thanks
Ive probably sprayed a majority of the manufacturers. Really the major names are pretty good. Base clear is the only way to go in my opinion. Ive sprayed single stage and have never been a fan of it. I just personally prefer base/clear.
I dont mix and match, like use PPG base (the actual color) and then say Sherwin Williams clear. Ive seen WAY too many paintjobs screwed up because of doing that.
I see your around me. Theres the Sherwin Williams store in Rock Springs, across the street from Wendys. Ive never been in there in the 3 years Ive lived down here though. Theres a real good PPG dealer in Casper, but I cant think of their name right now. Thats where I got the primer/hardener for my 70 Challenger, and thats where Im gonna get the paint for it and my 57 Chevy when its time to paint them. I can get the companies name for you next week when Im in Riverton, where the Challenger and my paint stuff is at...
You should also use a sealer if your going to paint over the factory color. I dont know the condition of the paint, but its best to use sealer or the color wont match. And any repairs or discoloration you paint over will show through the new paint. Its happened to me, even with sealer.
Are you going to strip it to bare metal? Have you ever painted a vehicle before (that shoulda been my first question... ) Do you have the right equipment? Like guns, compressor, filters, etc. ? I went high dollar on my guns (SATA) and love them! But Ill paint more than one vehicle in my life, and used to do it daily. If you just do it occasionally, theres no reason to drop that much coin on one...
