Greetings, I have gauge pod (steering colum) and paint to match (mopar agate), my question is, do I need to use any primer or any other preping. Thanks in advance, Mike (DOC NIELSEN)

All I did for my A-pillar was wipe it down with Urethane reducer. It cleans it and softens up the surface to bond better with the paint. Be sure to use 3M flexible interior paint, you can get it at your local body shop supply store. :)

Thinner to remove oils and SEM to paint

I rubbed my mount down briskly with paint thinner to remove all grease and oils. Held a blow dryer to it to dry off the thinner and painted it while it was still a little warm.

I used "SEM Color Coat" Flexible Coating Paint. Got it at a local paint store that specializes in Automobile paints. The can says it "changes or renews color on most flexible and rigid plastics, carpet, vinyl and velor". Can is labled to NOT be for sale to the general public and says it should be applied by professionally trained personnel with proper equipment. It's got some nasty chemicals inside, but WOW does it work well. I used a respirator because I have one - like having safety glasses on the shelf and not using them. Good ventilation would probably be ok.

My interrior is a light charcoal grey. I used color #15163 Presidio. Two light coats. Both the finish and the color came out exceptional.

I've tried expensive etching undercoats (Bull Dog Adheision Promoter) before painting my ATV's and nothing seems to penetrate the hard, slick plastic fenders. The paint still scrapes off easily. I was SO impressed with this SEM paint that I'm going to try it on the ATV's next go around. If the SEM doesn't work, I might start thinking that only a dye would work. Anybody know of anything that sticks well to ATV plastic?

Good luck with your paint job.

Dang straight on the CLAY ! :)

... and an occasional sage brush, cedar tree, and slow moving squirrel.

Haven't snagged any rabbits yet... yet. :) :)

I just ordered the light grewy yesterday, will be picking it up today. the Parts guy should be able to just order the light grey for your year truck. I was looking at the paint charts that DC uses, and the only paints available for the ram p/u are black agate and light grey.

Your color number is on a data sheet somewhere on the vehicle. Mine was under the very front most part of the the hood - just above the hood latch.

Note: The Auto Paint Specialty Store where I got my paint used this data sheet to match my body paint color, but did NOT use it for the interrior vinyl color. They said that matching interrior colors from data sheets does not yield very good results. Some customers insist on using the exact number and it comes out bad. Their preferred method is to take a piece of the vinyl into the store and they match it using some paint color/tone machine. This is usually much closer than using a chart or number.

FYI - My interrior is a light charcoal grey. I used a apray can of SEM color #15163 Presidio and it matched great.
