2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Painting grill shell?

This might be a stupid question, but I was wondering if it is possible to paint the existing factory grill shell. I have the SLT chrome (actually I have two of them) and was thinking on having it painted like the sport. Will this work or do I need to find a fiberglass one that will take the paint?

Well I knew a couple of guys that did it to there Chevy pickup grills a few years ago, but they were professional auto painters. I believe they used a very good primer then painted the grills. They looked good for a long time but by the time they sold the trucks the paint was peeling.

Kev, You can paint them but the cost of the right supplies will just about be the same as the sport grill. check out a couple of wrecking yards might be able to find one pretty cheep and go from there.

Early Sport Grill

I bought a black early sports grill and replaced my chrome grill. I have a painted red grill that was chrome. It looks pretty good. I was going to paint it black, but found the black grill for a good price on Ebay. A late sports grill will not fit unless you change the bumper too.

Kev. . ya might contact Bryan over at diesel-central.com he ownes KC Custom . . they do a ton of very neat paint jobs... they did all the custom Indian MC's till Indian had $$ problems.

they also did my flame and cowl hood, while there I saw some cool work they were doing and one was a grill flame job [talk about work!]. . Bryan is a cool guy . . he goes under the handle of Psychostroker here and on his site [he owns the D-C site]
