painting stainless steel

just bought stainless radiator protector from genos,fits great. the problem is you can see it through the grill when hood is closed. I need to paint it black,any special paint prep for stainless?

I've had decent luck painting stainless. I used a very fine sandpaper to just scuff the surface enough to give a better bonding surface. This was on a stainless snowblade bracket I made for my Honda ATV. I keep the braket mounted all the time and it has weathered some pretty harsh treatment... . going thru weeds, water, etc. The only paint that has come off was from abrasion.

A simple solution is black out tape. You can get it at places like Auto Zone. It was made to black out chrome trim. It would be easy to remove and replace if/when it gets damage.

Get an aerosol can of Mar-Hyde primer. It is a self-etching primer that will really stick. Then paint over that.
