Whoa ... New Vendor?

aFe filter cleaning

I haven't found any paint that will hold up, but ceramic coating (Jet Hot or HPC) should hold up fine. A few people have done it. I haven't yet, but I will.

Maybe Donny from Littleton will reply here. At the Dyno meet yesterday he had his KSB-1 Painted Cummins Red. It looked Sweet!! I meant to ask how he did it but forgot

I originally painted my new AST manifold with VHT. After a couple months, it was starting to show rust through so I sprayed over it with the Krylon exhaust paint and it works!

I know, I know, you're asking about the compressor housing. Well, I sprayed the ATS manifold in February and it was cold out so it was done after the truck was driven and allowed to cool a little so the paint wouldn't burn. Nothing was cleaned prior to the tough up. Since I was doing it with a flashlight in one hand and going fast to get back inside the house, I didn't tape or shield anything while I did it. (Crude, I know) But I did manage to get a little overspray on the compressor housing and it's still there.

I don't know what color you are considering but you might see what is available in exhaust or engine paint. If I was going for looks, I'd polish it.

Extreme1 ... yep ... going for looks. Sure like HVACs pictures of his polished setup ... purdy. I'd like to go a custom color, high temp style. Maybe to match the body color. Does someone do the polishing?

Thanks ToolManTimTaylor ... great link. Reno has a # of automotive paint stores. Gonna have to make a couple calls.

I don't know how hot the compressor side gets. Better stated, I wonder if the exhaust side is X degrees hotter than the compressor side. I don't like the 1500 degree range & back out, but I wouldn't want the paint to go away when the exhaust side gets in the 1300 & 1400 range.

I've run my PDRHX35 on the dyno well past 1740 deg. F. (per my SPA EGT tattletale), and my custom chrome plated compressor housing ( ) has never blued... even in the slightest.

I used Dupli-Colour High Heat on my exhaust housing and it is holding up great. I don't run past 1450 so I don't know if it will hang at higher temps. The paint is rated for 1200.

If you had the time and desire, polishing is easy to do yourself. I would start with about a 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper and work your way up to 1200. It's small and once you got the surface smooth it would go pretty quick (assuming it's off the truck!). You don't have to do the whole thing, only the visible areas. Just be sure to keep it coated with LPS or clean it frequently to keep it from corroding.
