Hi. .

the actuator which controls the front panel/ defrost door has gone bad for the second time in 2. 5 yrs, seems to be getting oil and losing vacuum, is there a cure for this, dealer has one coming in tomorrow for $25. 00, it's the one almost next to fuel pedal, held on with 2 phillips screws, it's easy to get to /replace, but today

happens to be in the high 90's and it goes out.

again does anybody know of a cure for this oil in vacuum lines.

also does anybody know what a vacuum pump sounds like when it's gone bad or going bad, this might be related to above problem, but the pump sounds sorta like a siren when first starts

then quiets down, only after i give it pedal.

thank you

Dave,

Hopefully some of our experts will join in. If I remember, our trucks are supposed to have a check valve installed in the vac. line near the pump. Mine was installed by the dealer after I bought the truck. I think there is a 6 or 7 year extended warranty on the vac. system. At least on the '96'.

I just replaced the same vac. motor (diaphram). I had trouble getting the rod end off the crank, ended up breaking one of the plastic ears off. New one went on ok.

i did the same today, broke off half of the plastic tip, actuator

metal rod was still able to go on and work, but how did you replace the plastic piece...

did you have to take apart alot of the box under the dash...

thanks

Dave,

I didn't replace the plastic piece yet. Hoping for the best! Its been on for about 2 weeks, so far - so good. I wasn't sure what all I would have to take apart, so I let it be.

I hate cheap plastic parts!
