How many of you new truck owners are having to EDUCATE the dealers on this issue?? (rocker panel plugs) My son, along with a lot of you, have had to take these guys by the hand and show them that they are missing. Or are they playing dumb so they can get out of doing anything about it.

I had to go to Chrysler to get the 16 missing plugs. The dealer, Lithia Dodge, finally ordered then but refused to install them. they are still sitting in the glove box until I have the time to install them when it isnt raining here in Oregon.

my dealer still has them on order [last i was there, they had 1 of 16 in, 15 back ordered] i am going to try another dealer and just buy the darn things if they are not too expensive

This whole thing is disturbing. My new truck is due within the next two weeks. I stopped at the dealer to make some final arrangements. I asked the salesman, part guy, and service manager about the issue and they all knew nothing about it.

We went out to look at a new truck and sure enough the plugs were missing and the holes were covered with tape. What gives here? How can something this get by without Dodge somewhere somehow taking notice? What else has been "taped over"?

The tape is normal. If they were building them wrong they would have noticed long before now. And besides, why isn't the tape adequate? It is on a vertical surface, so the chances of anything disturbing it is minuscule. I think you risk more potential damage by removing the tape and pulling a bit of paint off that might eventually rust. Especially if you live in the salt belt.

I am not an expert but I have to strongly disagree. On the truck I inspected yesterday the edge of the tape was already peeling away and I could clearly see into the hole which it should have covered.

The tape is very thin, more like a wide masking tape. Rocks or road debris will easily puncture it. If this is considered normal I will reconsider my order.

the dealer ordered 20 of the plugs for me.

8 on each rocker panel

2 on the side wall of each frame rail

cost me around 20 bucks, and took about a week to get them in stock.

I am picking up my new 3500 QC Laramie 4X4 next week and stopped by the dealer to finalize my mods they were doing. Several people mentioned that the plugs were missing. I asked my rep about it and he looked at me like I had a piece of turd on my face. I saw a 2500 on his showroom floor and had him crawl under it to show him the tape. He just shrugged it off and said that's for when they hook up steps and what have you. Nobody gives a rats a$$ about your vehicle, they want your money and send you on your way. Pisses me off that the truck I am buying list for over $46,000 and they pull this bs. Just my . 02!

duct tape??

There is a even better tape than that if that is what you want to use. There is an Aluminum sealing tape and also a tape that is Aluminum and has a tar sealant on the sticky side, that is virtually in destructible. It's used in the freight industry for sealing up holes in trailers. I think that camping world has such an item also. but the aluminum is a little thinner. But thus going to be a pricey item

just my penny's worth.

ok, hate to upset anyone, but the wifes '03 built 12/02 has rubber plugs in all holes except the ones in the floor board which have metal plugs that snap in from inside the cab ...

that's the way they should all look imo

woohoo... i just found out that my rubber plugs are in [was at an other dealer ordering the srt-10 pillar and asked to price out the plugs [$1. 75 cdn full list each] ] and they said their comp shows the other dealer has them 16 pieces in stock, and they are mine... will get them next week i guess

There was a thread about the plugs a while back, my dealer ordered and installed them. I think he charged DC for warranty work. There is also a problem that most guys miss with the rear end being 1 qt. low of fluid. Get that taken care of also.
