I had to go to Chrysler to get the 16 missing plugs. The dealer, Lithia Dodge, finally ordered then but refused to install them. they are still sitting in the glove box until I have the time to install them when it isnt raining here in Oregon.
That sounds just like my patriot blue 04. That also sounds just like the Lithia dealer in Aroura, Co. , wher I picked mine up.

ORDERED PLUGS

Thanks Mlee, I ordered the plugs from my local dealer for 1. 25 ea X 20 pcs. to do the frame rails also. When I asked about this being covered by warranty I just got a blank look and a shrug. total cost 26. 50 incl. tax.

Where are these plugs ?

They aren't, and that's the rub. On the vertical back side of the rocker panel are a series of oblong holes which are either simply covered by a strip of tape or covered by rubber plugs. There may be as many as eight to a side and c. 2x4 inches.

For some mysterious reason many new trucks do not have the rubber plugs as it seems they should.

I am embarrassed that I undercoated the tape on my 04 and didn't really think about the tape. I will be talking to the dealer this monday about that.

Jungledave,

I would be interested to hear what your dealer has to say about this. Most seem to act clueless about the missing gromet/plugs. Can't seem to get any information from Dodge.

Now that you guys have the plugs, what are you going to do about the drain holes that drain that wet panel below the plugs????

I have given up dealing with D/C. I basically bought the truck because it is a Cummins. Everything around the motor (Dodge truck) is crap and I guess i must accept that. If the Dodge didnt have the Cummins, they would never sell their trucks, period! The motor is great, the truck is just a bunch of plastic, ultra thin metal and very little paint. If I could transplant the Cummins in my other truck, a 72 Chevy Cheyenne, last of the all metal trucks!, I would be very happy! I highly doubt that my Dodge Cummins will last as long as the Chevy has and still look as good. The motor may still be alive but the Dodge will be in a scrap yard. I figure that at the rate my truck is falling apart, it will be paintless within the next year or so. Sad, very sad!

well i have my plugs now... it took the mechanic there longer to do the work order than to put the plugs in [very new at that dealer, was wearing a goodwrench gm shirt :-laf]

I just got the truck, I took a look and found tape on mine as well but I don't see what all the fuss is about. Like Sag2 points out ,there are drainholes directly beneath these covered holes, as well as the fact that the ends are open as well.

they are suppose to be there, and they are not. that is the problem. you paid good money for your truck, and that $20 worth of plugs are included in the price, not $0. 05 worth of tape. .

it's the principal of the situation.

I agree, but more than that, why was the truck designed for the plugs to begin with? Tape has not always been used and the plug/grommet is show as a valid part of the truck. I want them for the original design purpose.

After having to talk with customer service in Detroit they finally sent me a check for $32 and I ordered the 8 plugs for $16 and finally got them installed today when I changed my oil. The knuckle head dealer said that the tape was stock and wouldn't do anything for me. #@$%! The plug looks alot better than the tape. Now it looks like I have to clean the underside.

I really went back to find this. Maybe this will help others out.
