Panhandlers at the Gas Station

I was amazed at all the homeless living in beat up old cars hanging around the Flying Js when I was transporting and on some occasions, young attractive women working the parking lots hitting up or selling to the truckers.



Many Americans live their lives without being aware of that underclass out there who choose not to work.

As you say Harvey ITS their choice to be lowlife

I will NEVER give to ANY moocher who smokes or drinks. I think the government should have the same requirements! If they can afford the tattoos, piercings, cigs and booze, they can damn sure afford the necessities. I have no sympathy for FOOLS who have made pisspoor decisions in their lives. I will help someone who is genuinely TRYING to help themself, but smoking and drinking is NOT trying.

y'all should visit california. stuff like you guys talk about is a daily occurrence. I think CA invented the gas can scam!

My story is the same to every 'down on luck' soul. I will give you ANYTHING you need, but your not getting cash. IE: you're out of gas, i will take you where you need to go. You're hungry, i will feed you. I get hit up at almost every place I go, to date ONLY ONE has taken me up on my offers. Shows you how many people are truly needy.

I saw one about fifteen years ago in Austin, which is the Texas capitol and populated with a lot of people who have similar political and social values to many Kalifornians. His hand lettered cardboard sign displayed the message,

"Why Lie? I need it for the beer. "

The best I ever saw was on one of my return trips to NY from PA in 2008. There was a panhandler with a sign that read,"homeless, out of work, and have AIDS" - on the median barrier of the Cross Bronx Expressway. I spoke with someone else who made the same trip a week or so later, he was still there. I suppose if things got really bad he could throw himself into oncoming traffic- if it was moving more than 5-10 MPH.

They seem to stake claims just like back in the 49'er days. The situation in Pasadena is stupefying. Four guys on each corner, and one standing in the median. I pass one guy pretty regularly at an offramp down here by Disneyland. Mid-day I'm stopping for a coke at the 7-11 and the guy is buying (8) quart bottles of Bud & some cigarettes.



It's a choice.
