In todays mail I received a post card regarding this class action suit regarding the infamous 53 engine block. I found this information on the internet referencing the same claimant names FindACase™ | Howard Pardue/Pardue's Auto Repair, Inc. v. Cummins Inc.

Per the post card "... the parties have agreed to a proposed settlement in which class memebers would receive certain benefits upon a timely qualifying request... settlement provides for reimbursement up to, but not exceeding $500. 00... for costs incurred to repair or replace a covered pattern 53 engine block... " Several qualifications are listed as to if you would receive a payment. Deadline appears to be October 22, 2012.

Has this been discussed before and I am behind the times?

I have never found a 53 on my 2000 truck block, and !KNOCK on WOOD! no problems.

I agree with Road Dog. Most of those class action lawsuits are initiatated by ambulance chasing lawyers. If the actual claimants ever get anything at all it is peanuts. The lawyers run their fees off the charts so that if a settlement is ever received they rake it all off the top.

Not all 53 blocks cracked and among those that did, Cummins or Dodge covered them under warranty. Several were reported where Cummins provided some assistance even after the warranty expired.

It's just another scam by greedy lawyers who have no integrity or ethics.

you wont get nearly as much money as the greedy, lowlife ambulance chasing child molester helping lawyers, and you will be causing great financial stress on a fine company, CUMMINS,INC so, STARVE THE LAWYERS< TAKE CARE OF IT YOURSELF!!!!

I received the same card in the mail today. I did own a 2001 with a 53 block, but I sold it for my current '07. I'm wondering if they mailed everyone who purchased a 1998-2001 24-valve or only those with 53 blocks determined by vin#.

I received the same trash post card in the mail today. I did own an '01 but it did not have a 53 block.

This is nothing more than greedy, conniving lawyers trying to screw Cummins and all the suckers they can get to sign on who are hoping for something for nothing.

I am tempted to put the post card in an envelop and send it to the ambulance chasers with instructions to put it where the sun doesn't shine.

I had a 98, don't know if it had a 53 block or not.

But on a different note, long ago I had one of those Mazda's with the

Rotary (72') that had failed water "0" rings. It cost me $500 to get it fixed. Seeing how I was in school I had to sell some of my apt. furnishings and stereo equip. to pay for it. About 10 yrs later I got one of those class action letters and I went ahead and filled it out. A year later I got a check for $500:--) The Mazda had long since gone, so it was nice to get money out of it!

Yep, I got the post card today too. I dropped it in the trash can as I walked through the garage on the way back from the mailbox. I had a 2000 3500 dually 6-speed and didn't know whether it had a 53 block or not. I never looked... :D I owned it for just a little over two years and 40K miles.

I got the card today. Corporate Cummins helped me a lot when the local dealer I bought the truck from hung me out to dry being 3 months out of warranty. It was the local Cummins that screwed me over for $ 3500 when they did not bill the change over the way corporate Cummins wanted. I placed the card in the shredder as it is water under the bridge now.

I got a card as well and it's a joke. They only provide up to $500 IF a repair was made and as long as there is less than 250k miles. Only a full recall would be sufficient IMHO. I have close to 286k miles on my "53" block, if it goes before I decide to trade it off, oh well. I will definitely seek any help from Cummins that they are willing to give on a repair. Despite any issues I have had with this engine or the truck I would not hesitate to buy another Dodge Cummins, my current truck has been the best I have ever owned.
