##@$%!@$%! Who owns the monkey that can adjust the parking brake shoes on drivers side, pass side no problem, adjuster accessable below axle tube, not like drivers side !! any ideas??

I ran into this same problem with my 03 dually. I ended up pulling the hub and bearing and measurung the inside drum of the rotor and then adjusting it accordingly. It is a pain in the butt procedure just to adjust the e-brake.

Just did it this morning, and I agree it's a pain in the butt

I removed the wheels on the left rear to access the top slot and adjusted

it with a custom bent adjuster tool.

While I was at it I went around and removed all the bleeders one at a time and freed them up

and applied thread sealer to them for future servicing. I use thread sealer because I draw the brake fluid out with an evacuator system and it doesn't draw air past the threads that way. .

Yup, custom made a brake spoon, borrowed a light & mirror on a stick and had at it, job done! with one newly manufactured tool added to tool box.

Now I gotta find where to buy the lite &mirror on a stick so I don't have to borrow that next time. Thanks for the replies and happy huntin for the Dana engineers that designed this mess!!

Just got done adjusting my parking brakes the other day. I took off the wheel and the rubber plug in the backing plate. Then I used a mirror on a stick and a small flashlight to see the star wheel and used a small flathead screwdriver to rotate it. Once you've done it a couple times its no problem at all. I agree it goofy putting the driver's side adjuster above the axletube, though.

Its nice to find out Dana is spreading this joy around, got a call from a friend and his ford has the same problem.

Dana doesn't make our axles

The axles on the 03 and later HD trucks are made by American Axle Manufacturing Co (AAM). Dana had nothing to do with it. ;) Ken Irwin
