Over the last few weeks, I have developed a pop in the parking brake pedal that is getting progressively louder. Brake still seems to hold the truck well, but this pop concerns me. It occurs at about 75% of pedal travel, pops, and then I continue pushing the pedal past that point about another 25% of total travel, same as always. Only now, I've got the loud pop.

Any suggestions? Did a search and came up with nothing. TIA.

Parking brake shoes do not self adjust... . you normally should not be able to push the pedal farther to the floor that about 50% of the distance... . I suggest that you take a brake spoon and adjust the rear brakes until the shoe drag lightly on the drum and than see if the pop goes away... .

I might take a look at the structure around where the pedal mounts. There could be a spot weld that broke loose and you might have some flexing that causes the pop. It could also be the pedal mechanism itself. Remove the panel right in front of your knees and you can get a better look in there. If I remember right, it's just a couple of screws.

The pedal doesn't go to the floor. I probably push it about 65-75% of complete available travel from unengaged resting position to floor. Of the amount of travel that I push the pedal, I get the pop at about 75% of that. Not saying that my p-brake doesn't need adjusting, just that it holds fine. I will definitely look into it though. But if I adjust it and my pedal travel is reduced, I am not sure I have really fixed the problem. It may still be there in the pedal mechanism, waiting to rear its ugly head at a later time.

I checked under the dash initially and actuated the pedal with my hand and couldn't see any obvious malfunction other than the popping sound. When I get home I'll pull the service manual to see if it has any trouble shooting steps.
