I posted the cure for the crappy Dodge parking brake here on TDR in August of '07. Since coming up with this fix, my p-brake has NEVER failed, popped-off, or given me any problems. Back when this was posted, the discussion turned into an argument by some folks of questionable intelligence over the need for a p-brake. I came up with this after getting fed up with always having to chock my wheels since my '96 parking brake was dangerously unreliable. It is an easy fix and also makes your pedal function like a normal parking brake, meaning it stays down when you set it.

You will need to scroll down a ways in the post to where I reposted the procedure and photos after getting fed-up with the flaming and deleting it. A few members understood that braggart claims of "engine compression being all you need to park a manual transmission Cummins Dodge" were just plain wrong and asked me to put my fix back up.

Do this and kiss your parking brake problems goodby for good:

Don, thanks for the link! I browsed through a lot of pages on this server and didn't find yours. I will modify my p-brake assembly with the welded bolt. Great idea!

With best regards,
Den

It's a pretty old post, Den. Probably getting hard to find.

If you have any questions just pm me. The photos really show you all you need. The description makes it sound more complex than it is. The R&R of the pedal assembly is 90% of the work.

It really works well on my truck and nobody else who has done it has made any further p-brake complaints either.
