Parking brake released itself!!!!????

Kind of scary reading when I think of the number of times I've launched my power boat at a public ramp.

I'm a bomb loader in the USAF and the bomb lift trucks we drive have a manually operated hydraulic parking brake valve. To set it you just press the normal brake pedal to the floor, flip the parking brake lever over and it traps the brake fluid in the line until you release it. They work great and and if the AF trust it for loading bombs, you could be assured that it would perform for our trucks. I can try to get some info, if anyone is interested, such as the manufactures name.

Well I'm back, just went out and put mine in gear. Just had the parking brake on and you guys got me worried.

I had a Mico Leverlock on my old truck and our Rome tractor has one. The only draw back is if you have a leaking wheel cylinder it will release, but nobody wants a bad wheel cyl. anyway. A friend of mine had his "97 4x4 3500 roll down a hill from where it was parked when it was new. got the whole front end , oil pan, front axle, frame, radiator,timing cover, windsheild, I think it was about $16K to fix it but now 5 yrs an 180,000 miles later it is still on the road.

Man you guys really know how to make a guy nervous. I start my truck every morning and night and leave it running in neutral while it warms up. The Mico locks you guys are talking about can be oredered from www.Awdirect.com. I am not affiliated with them in any way but have ordered from them in the past. They have many different choices. I will be taking greater precaution from now on that is forsure.

guys, if your looking for a line lock do a search for a thread I started titled parking brake(or brakes - can't remember). I found a company in California that makes them which you can tap into your brake lines. I've used it a bit and works great. Company is www.porkbarrelengineering.com . I only ordered one unit and installed it in my front brake between master cylinder and the combination/proportioning valve. I use it as a back up to the rear parking brake. I tried one of the line locks from a performance shop and it worked for about a minute or two then would get so hot it would"let go" and unlock. The paperwork it came with said for quick use only - I guess they were right. The one I have now I have tested up to an hour and it did not let go. As a plus, it's much cheaper than the mico when I looked at them. I think my total was around $75 for the lock and about $10 -15 for some additional line and fittings.
