I've got a Y2K 3500 diesel dually. Any idea what caused the lights to stop flashing when setting/disabling the alarm? It worked fine for about a year and about a month ago, the parking lights no longer flash on setting alarm and do not come on when disabling alarm. I still have the chirps.

I can't find anything in the alarm manual about the lights. I can turn off the chirp by turning ignition on and pressing button II. There's nothing in the manual about what happens if you press button I right after turning the ignition on. Did I accidentally press button I and turned off the lights?

HGH,

Have you got the factory alarm?

I have the SLT+ with the factory alarm system and the parking lights on my truck have never blinked--just the horn "burp" when setting the alarm. When disarming, the interior lights come on but no blinking park lights.

There is a "security system armed" indicator light on the overhead console that blinks while the system is armed. It is a little red indicator light that blinks about every 15 seconds. It's visible from outside the cab. Refer to page 13,14 & 64 in your Owner's Manual.

Thanks Bill, but as I said, it worked fine for a year. My Sport model would flash parking/clearance lights once when I activated the alarm. The lights would come on and stay on for 30 seconds upon deactivation of the alarm. This is per the manual that came with the factory installed alarm.

My security system armed indiator is built into the dash. That light continues to blink when the system is activated, just as it should.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Hal

The factory alarm system does not blink lights. At lease not on my 2001 3500.

Ok, the factory alarm system is made by Code Alarm. On the Code Alarm systems that I have installed (sorry no factory alarm installs) the parking light circuit is a fused circuit (15 amp fuse on my Code Alarm unit), and it is controlled by a relay. Unfortunately, the relay for the parking light circuit on a Code Alarm is built in, so no easy fixin' that, but there should be a fuse somewhere near the alarm brain that is for the parking light circuit.

Again, I have never looked at a factory alarm so I am just applying my knowledge of the Code Alarm products.

I hope this helps,
Ryan

Actually as I re-read this thread, you said your alarm chirps. Does you alarm have a siren? Don't the factory alarms use the horn as it's audible device? And the others have posted their lights never blinked. I'm beginning to wonder if, in fact, your alarm is not a true factory alarm. Perhaps the dealer forgot to order the alarm for you and realizing they made a mistake, installed an aftermaket alarm, or had one installed.

How about this, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the factory alarm remote have a Dodge symbol on it and have 2 buttons. HGH, what does your remote look like?

Soooooo,

It appears I don't have a "factory" installed alarm. The dealer told me all new vehicles have alarms because this is an insurance requirement. Then, when the dealer sells it, they either remove it or leave the features in and charge the customer.

The key-fob does not look the same as in the truck owners manual, but I never thought much about that. There's always minor differences... .

The key-fob has TRC on it. Looking at the warranty page of the alarm system, it says Right Connection Electronics, Inc. (TRC) in Placentia, CA covers the warranty.

When I said the alarm "chirps," well it is more of a quiet muffled chirp or clunk. It is definitely not those loud chirps I hear from other alarms. And this is how is was when being shown how to operate it on the dealer's lot. I've never activiated the panic mode to see what the alarm sounds like, but the book says the lights will flash and the horn will honk.

I've verified the parking and clearance lights work through the light switch. They just don't work anymore when activiated by the alarm.

Looking at the install manual, a white wire goes to the parking lights from the alarm control module. As many times as I've pulled and been under the dash, maybe I accidentally disconnected the wire. When it warms up today, I'll check it out.

Hey guys, THANKS for your suggestions and support.

HGH, I think Cooker is correct. I had the
same experience with my Viper alarm. The fuse had blown in the wire connected to the parking light circuit. I called Viper, and they said it could happen again, since I also have cab clearance lights as part of the circuit so more amps are being drawn, making it more likely to blow the fuse. They warned against installing a larger fuse though, as this could damage the system. The fuse blew after 2 years in service. That was 4 months ago, and the new fuse is holding out fine. Remove the knee bolster and dig around under there again and you will find it. Look for the fuse holder.

The fob on my factory alarm has the Ram-head logo, 3 buttons (lock, unlock & panic), is stamped TRW on the back and has a Chrysler part number identifier. There is a blinking red light in overhead console when armed and horn burps briefly when arming with fob. There is no burp when arming with door-lock button. There is nothing on dash having to do with alarm and lights do not flash no matter how it is armed/disarmed.

Mine is just like RayJ said except have the compus, computer, etc on roof so blinking light under dash left hand side. I don't have the alarm it just disables elelctrically the ignition. The horn beeps once when locking. As for the alarm I seem to remember reading the literature when the truck alarm was installed the parking lights blinked and horn like double beeped but that could have been when you unlock with the FOB. Sorry could not be of more help.
