My '06 steering box at 65K miles is leaking above the pitman. Looks like a common problem. I cannot find a part # in the archives and the dealer says the kits are on nationwide backorder. NAPA doesn't list a part number but says they may be able to match it up.

Of course, to do that my truck is down. I am guessing there may be both a dust boot and seal.

I've ordered a steering box from NAPA (2 days, about $165, can be returned) but I'd rather keep the OEM quality box in the OEM box in there than use a rebuild. Headed to Colorado next week for some wheeling and need to get this resolved.

If there is a dealer part number as well, that might be helpful.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sorry no suggestions.

Mine has leaked since about 38K and I have yet to fix it. I have a spare steering box from the dealer that was taken off someone elses truck under warranty. I have always been meaning to have it rebuilt for a spare but have not done it yet.

JCasper,

You've actually been a helpful guy (not this time though - haha)

If I don't get a response off this board, and have to go match it up, i'll get the part #'s. If they are cheap (which I sort of expect), we have a PS rebuilder in town here, I'll pick up an extra set. If you want them, PM me with your address. I'm in a fine mood, the market had an uptick for a change.

... and Cummins did real well.

Sounds good, I'll send you a PM later.

The OEM part number for the seal kit that fit my 01 is. . 04470365

I don't know if it will be the same for your year truck.

A lot of people have had bad luck with rebuilt units,so try to reseal yours if you can. Try other dealers to see if they have the part in stock,or call mopar4less.com .

Good luck.
