Now I am all enthused about bumping up the power on the old Dodge. I called my local diesel supplyer. He said that they have a Bosch injector that they used to sell for $50 , but now the price is way high. But he says he can rebuild my old injectors with different tips to increase the flow 15 - 20 % for $50 each. On the Lucas injectors, he does not have a part #, but if I had a # he could price them for me. What should I do there? Is the POD way better than just putting tips on my old injectors?

Also he can sell me a HX35 cartridge and cover to put into my 16cm housing for $400.

Would this be a pretty good upgrade? what could I expect?

Thanks, Joel

Joel,

Soon after I purchased my truck I had this old fart pass me in a mini van whilst my right foot was nailed to the floor.

You can make a few (impressive) inexpensive changes to these engines and it'll really wake them up. 250 rwhp is a big step up and not difficult to do. She'll be in your rear view mirror before you know it.

I'm probably wrong but I'm thinking PDR has the POD name for the high performance injectors. I have had some people ask me where to locate them as they have tried other vendors with no luck. If your asking for them by name, you probably will not find them. If you ask for Lucas/Delphi by part no. you can find some similar to the POD's

The price of the mild upgrade injectors has been driven up 120% I don't recall the model no. or name, sorry. Marine units of some sort. Used to be darn cheap.

I won't go into details as to what you'll need to address to achieve the 250 mark. Everyone goes about it in a little different fashion.

Hope this helps some. Your welcome to PM me if you'd like to talk details.

The injectors that went thru the roof on pricing were the 185 hp injectors. Keep in mind that most of these references are really "labels" for a particular injector.

The 185's would usually provide about 28 RWHP over a set of stock injectors in the 91. 5 - 93 model year trucks.

PDR (yes I work there... ) also have a 190 RWHP set as well. They are labelled 190's because they produced a good 5 RWHP more than the 185's on a dyno test.

The POD's are another "label"... . they need some tweaking or they can live up to the name... Prince Of Darkness injector :-laf :-laf.....

The POD's will produce roughly 55'ish RWHP ... some a tad more, some less depending on your pump settings and so forth.

They are, as noted, Lucas injectors and now come under the Delphi brand.

Now, this is only my opinion but you can get a balanced/matched set with install kit ready to go for about the same price as a Bosch shop will charge for an "off the street" customer.

Check the numbers before you plunk down your money. In addition, if you buy a proper new set, you'll always have your stockers in hand if you need them.

You can have them cleaned up and reset for emergency needs.

If you decide to go that route, have your stock nozzles reset to about 260 bar. That will help with atomization and burn efficiency.

The search feature will show you part numbers. Go to www.piersdiesel.com for prices on injectors. Yes the POD'S are way better than having your stockers rebuilt. 6 injectors X $50= $300, cancel that idea. Think thats the price of new Bosch 190's, I could be wrong. This would be an upgrade plus you would have your stockers for backup or when you plan to go big boy, you can send them off for EDM's as cores. Don't know about the 35 cartridge for $400. Is that new, used, rebuilt, modified? go with the PODS and a tighter torque convertor, you'll be happy.
