Part Number for 05 service manual

When I took delivery of the 05 this past weekend I asked the salesman for a service manual, but the salesman said that they could not get the service manual. I was wondering if anybody knows the part number to the service manual so that I could give to salesman?

You can order the hard copy from the Tech Center for $375 or the CD for about $107 shipped. I have the CD, it's Manual No. 81-370-05059CD

Geno's has the CD for around $85... ... You can also get the book for a lot more. It isn't listed on line, but the newest catalogue has it, or you can call them.

if you search ebay, you can probably find a CD copy of the original for like $10...



[or wait for like 6 months and someone will have it uploaded on a website somewhere to download it for free like what happened with the 03 and 04 manuals]

This is so important many people don't realize. I will never buy another new vehicle without it, it will be a condition of the sale. Aftermarket repair data when you can find it is never as complete.

Since 2002 I have been going round and round with Mastercraft for a diagnostic manual on our boat and even though we are out of warranty they are not budging.



Even if you never do your own maintenance its important, in CD form you can toss it in the glove box on trips so someone with basic knowledge and that CD can get you going. For non warranty stuff your local shop might like to burn a copy as an OEM backup to the aftermarket stuff they buy that covers many makes & models.

I see they have split up service and diagnostics. I have an 03 Service but it looks like it covers diagnostics also.

So what the concensus? CD vs. print? pro/ cons?



PROS:

The CD is cheaper, but ya' can print just the pages you need. A wireless laptop could be right by your work bench and in the vehicle.



CONS:

The print version is more. You HAVE to print the pages you need with the CD. A laptop in the garage can get greasy. A laptop in the garage may get damaged. CD can get scratched- then what? (It may be legal to burn a copy for use and store the original in a safe)



Help me decide which to get!

You don't have to keep using the CD. I just put it in a folder on my hard drive on the computer. You can also burn a spare copy.

Its thousands of pages long, paper gets dirty and torn. CD is far faster to locate and access the info especially when it is copied to the HD.

If you really need certain data in the shop then just print the page vs buying a laptop. . you can write notes on it, high lite certain sections, not worry about greasy finger prints and just trow it away when done.



Imagine how fat and cumbersome a book would be? I won in a raffle a 2003 "paper" version for the Chevy Trucks and it just sets on a shelf as a reminder how dated that formate is and the amount of information needed to service todays vehicles. Its 4 books over a foot wide combined!



I say get the CD.
