I need to change the differnential lube in the front and rear axles. Does any one happen to know the part numbers for the gaskets that fit the front and rear differentials? I don't like using straight silicone to seal the cover to the diff. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. .

not sure if there is an aftermarket one maybe somebody makes a gasket, but they dont have gaskets from the factory. Just silly cone. Get a maghytec, they rock

Don't have any part numbers handy. Just call anyone that supplies Dana parts and tell them you need a cover gasket for a Dana 60 and Dana 70, they should be able to help you out.

Or you can check with:

They are a big gear/diff outfit near Las Vegas, they should be able to ship you some for less than $5. 00 each.

I've never had a leak on any vehicle in all the years I've used Permatex Blue RTV silicone ..... just let it set up a little while after re-attaching the cover, say 15 minutes to half-an-hour, and you'll be good to go. Use a Mag-hytec on the rear, half your chances of getting a leak.

There is also another product from Loctite called "The Right Stuff". It is like silicone, but a little thicker. Almost like a urethane. It never leaks, and cleans up easier.

The Right Stuff

BigRamGuy is right - "The Right Stuff" ROCKS!! After numerous leaks/gaskets/silicone attempts on a CJ plastic valve cover I used it. It's been there for several years now with NO leaks even after I busted all of the locators off the valve cover (and I've removed and reinstalled it a few times. ) Never used it on axles, but I might start! Comes in a "Cheez-whiz" type dispenser and it's a little pricey, but definitely worth it.

Yeah it does rock. Quite a coincedence,as my first use was a jeep rocker cover as well. Had to buy whole cover from dealer as gasket was encapsulated. It was a "rush" job,so i didn't even clean the old gasket off, just laid on "The Right Stuff",and it never leaked. We see a lot of those style rocker covers in the shop now,and the only fix is new dealer cover or "The Right Stuff". Puts good money in my pocket. It's also nice for sealing something that is a real bear to get at,so you never have to do it again. I hate comebacks.

The stuff is now available in a regular caulking tube style now,as the string cheese type dispensers would clog up leaving it useless. With the price of the stuff, you don't want to throw it away. Loctite will actually replace any cans which still have products inside, but have clogged up. Just take it back to Napa or any other jobber. It is about double the price of silicone, but you can put it on very thin, and it won't squeeze out like silicone. It also doesn't go gummy in oil like regular silicone.

The permatex "Ultra Blue" was one of the better silicones out there, and now they also have "Ultra Black",if you don't like the blue color.

Sombody had this posted a while back. They said that front and rear took same gasket #P18562 Napa Cork Gasket. With my memory I wrote the number down. :D
