Howdy all, anyone have the part # for the rear trans seal for the NV5600. This is the seal the driveshaft plugs into on a 2wd. My second one is leaking and I want to get it from someplace other than Dodge. Thanks in advance.

Try Quad4x4 they usually have a pretyy good deal. Also I think I have one left over from a rebuild kit which I would be more than happy to give you if you want it. I don't know how much of a hurry your in for it.

Thanks to you both. I looked under the truck again this afternoon and i may be in bigger trotuble than I thought. It looks like the seal has come out and I don't know for how long. My snow tires have been making some big times noises and now I hope its not the transmission making the noise. I figure its either going to be a 100 dollar fix or a 5k fix. I am not thrilled at the moment. I will cross my fingers and see what happens this week.

Cattletrkr I am not sure about yours If you have the NV5600 with the 4X4. Are you talking about the seal for the drive shaft into the transfer case or are you talking about the seal for the trans ouput to the transfer case? If you are talking about the output shaft seal on the trans where it connects to the transfer case, its a real pain. You will have to remove the transfter case and pull the tail housing off of the trans. But it can all be done in chassis. but that is for the cast iron nv5600 I think the 04 has the alluminum g56. That one I am not sure about.

Mchessick. Let us know what happens after you get it back to normal on fluid. If you still have noise, I would suggest you stop driving it. You can get a bearing kit, find a trans shop to overhaul the bearings and you may be fine. Would cost about 1500 to 2000. I just did mine myself last month. But I would not reccomend doing it yourself unless you are extreamly mechanically enclinded.

Outcome, by coincedence, I had a couple issues going on at the same time. The same day I put the snow tires on I started hearing low rumble like snow tires were bad. Push in the clutch and the noise continued so I had a couple snow tires switched for opposite sides figuring they screwed them up during the install. Before I had them switched I jacked up the front end and checked out the front wheel bearings to make sure they were ok. Looked good. I was a quart down on oil so I added a quart and checked underneath the truck a week later only to find oil everywhere. The seal had come out altogether so I am now thinking the trans is toast due to a lack of oil. I head to the dealer, they change out the seal, add 3 quarts oil, all for the low scam of $276. 00. They tell me no noise from the trans when they run it through the gears on the lift but a road test reveals the front right wheel bearing is gone. That is the noise culprit. Glad the trans is ok, good thing I always overfill by 1. 5 quarts when I change the fluid. Now , back to the wheel bearing, dealer wants $126. 00 to install the $415. 00 dollar bearing. i am not giving this job to the dealer labor wise. Prices around the country vary from $246. 00 to $616. 00 for the bearing hub assembly. I am waiting the week and going with the cheap money and have my mechanic do it. it pays to shop around.

If you have ever replaced one, you will quickly realize that might be the best $126 you ever spent, especially on an 03 that is probably rusted in. Send Rbattle a note and ask him if he would have spent $126 to have it done.

I had one go out a couple months ago. $126 is reasonable. I did mine at home but $126 makes it a toss up... and mine was fairly easy.

G56 came about in model year '05, mine's still a NV5600. I figured I'd have to pull the t-case but I didn't know about the housing. Is that something better left to the pros? Mine is a fairly freshly rebuilt (~15K) trans with warranty so I'll probably let them handle it.

And yeah, the trans output. It's leaking transmission fluid, not ATF.
