I've been burning up the credit card lately- Just today I ordered the skyjacker 2. 5" kit (not system) complete with urethane bushings for the chassis end of the shackles and matching shocks. I ordered from

http://www.rockymountainsusp.com/welcome.htm and spoke to Robin, who was very helpful and supported the decision to use a 2. 5 kit as a stock replacement.

I also ordered and received the rear spindle nut kit (elimimates the nylock bearing nut) from Quad 4X4, and they were also very nice to deal with. This kit came with everything to do the job including a socket, axle flangegaskets and loctitie for the axle bolts. There was even a good video guiding through the job and reviewing their other products. All I need now is a good solid weekend with good weather!

I have thought of lifting my pickup, but ended up doing other mods. Keep us posted on how the install goes. I am interested in the ride personally.

Another question whats the difference in the system and the kit. I am not really looking for a lot of lift, I just want a better ride. I see that they make a 1'' kit also maybe thats the one I will go with. Either or I am very interested please keep us up to date.

Thanx Stomp

I'm interested in improved ride as well, not so much lifting my truck but an inch or two wouldn't bother me, it seems a little more travel in required to allow for a more compliant suspension. Please let us know how it works.

With all the research I've done here, the 2. 5 kit seems to be the way to go. The 1" kit is not a real improvment over what we have. I think the net gain is about 3/4" between the spring and bump stops.

The difference between the system and kit is the system is complete with rear springs and hardware, the kit just has a leaf that's added into your pack. I am hearing that the rear springs do not have the same rate as the OEM's, so there is GVW to give up. This is not good for me since I tow.

Hey Wayno

Here are links to the pics I promised you. It is a couple of pics of the kelderman air ride in my first gen. If you have any questions just let me know. How it works: There is an air bag in the middle of the truck frame up against the bottom of the box. There is a cross bar that goes under the air bag and attatches to a hinge, and then the shackes of the springs. The spring hangers are removed from the truck. When you put 5-10 psi in the air bag it lifts the rear of the truck; and the truck rides on the air. When loaded the air bag will squat, and the leaf springs take over like they do normally. If you try to inflate the air bag more, the springs just flex, this setup does not increase load carring capacity, it just takes the harshness out of the ride. By itself it works great, I then put 2. 5" skyjacker softrides on the front, and the ride is pretty darn good! Hope this helps

Softride leafsprings

I put the 2. 5 inch springs in the front of my 92. The ride was much better and there is now about 3 inches between the springs and bumpstops. They sit high for the first few weeks then sag down about an inch from the new height. The stock front driveshaft did not fit until they sagged a little. Now it fits fine. The stock ubolts worked as the spring pack is shorter than stock. Sometimes one spring is stronger than the other and they must be swapped side to side to get the truck level left to right - more weight on the driver's side. I put the 6 inch springs in the back and took out the blocks. Once the front springs sagged, the truck sat level at about one inch over stock height - probably about where it was when it was new. I tow a bumper camper and have noticed very little loss in payload capacity. The truck tows very well. I put on 4 new rs9000 shocks. I am not satisfied with them and would try the bilsteins next time at least on the front. They are hard to install and expensive. The truck rode better with the stock junk shocks but they were a little too short. For an extreme change in ride quality, put a 94 dodge seat in and toss the old bench. I feel much more in control now that I am not bouncing all over the cab on the stock seat.

I too was unhappy with the skyjacker shocks. They stiffened the ride back up. I used the adjustable rancho's. Don't know the # of them. They work great, except everytime I pull my gooseneck, I have to get under the truck and adjust them. It sucks having to lay under the truck everytime I hook and unhook. I don't want the gauges either for the shocks.

I have run across a couple of guys that have the skyjackers on the rear thought the load capacity was down, BUT one had a large slide in camper and pulled his offroad truck on a bumper hitch trailer. Thats prolly a big load. I would have concerns because I pull a 7000=# trailer and put two #5000 trucks on it.
