My truck is a 04. I have the "O8 upgrade" for the steering linkage. I am trying to order the linkage from the pitman arm down to the bar that connects both wheels together. It's the one that you adjust to center your steering wheel.



What is that part called and what year truck would I look under (since it is the "08 upgrade) to get an aftermarket part such as Moog?

Bob, Sag2 and mwilson, you guys are always there with the good info. I was in a hurry this afternoon trying to figure out the proper parts but ran out of time. I am leaving for a rainy trip to Yosemite tomorrow morning and will get to the parts replacement job when I return. Thanks again.

I am going to attempt to use the graphics for both the "Y" and "T" steering and call out the part numbers so that we can reference it in the future.



Maybe make a "sticky" out of it.



I tried last night to set something up with aftermarket part numbers and failed miserably. The aftermarket info is just terrible and the terminology that they use in the catalogs just plain sucks.



This is not my first day at this parts game and even I threw up my hands about 9. 00pm last night. Sent Superdawg a pm and told him I had to come up with something better than the current state of affairs.



With the info that sag2 provided I can now make it come out right.

My Dodge link would not show all the part numbers for an '09 truck so I could not figure out the drag link end part numbers.



It will take me a few days, but if it comes out as I hope it will be very easy to identify the proper parts with my "visual aid".



As more trucks get upgraded the confusion will only get worse and you will have no hope at the local Napa as the pimple faced kid at the counter is going to give you the wrong parts if you don't have the part numbers yourself.

I am ordering a inner drag link assy for my 2007. 5. the Pittman arm is not the one refered to above it is 52106836AB. do i in fact, need to replace with the 68039930AA? I suppose its on my dime as well as its out of warranty. also on the parts fiche, are '07. 5 parts found under '07 or '08 PN ?

BTT. Is ANYBODY besides Chrysler making an 08 upgrade right outer tie rod (#1 in the T diagram)? 3 years and 26K miles later the outers have almost no movement! The drag link ends are both fine. Should just go back the the Y linkage since lasted 3X longer than the "upgrade". @&#%$* OEM junk!

When I was working on this in the spring I could not get anywhere with #1 or #8, whichever you want to call it. If I knock the stack of paperwork down that I brought home tonight I will check again to see if Moog or someone has stepped up yet.

Thanks Mike. Unless you have better access than the Moog look up, then it doesn't look good. Neither the 2008 or 2009 listed one.

My head hurts. Ok here is some info that might help others.

As of 9-23-12 using OEM online discount prices and Rock Auto Moog prices (taxes or shipping not included):

Just replacing all the rod ends (4 of them):
T type OEM = $355. 35
T type Moog = $232. 29 (note: right outer is OEM @ $123, it is not available aftermarket)

Y type OEM = $263. 20
Y type Moog = $175. 82

It is worth noting that the complete OEM T type linkage 52122362AH (all rod ends and adjusting sleeves) is around $250 from the online discounters.


WARNING if you subscribe to the old adage: “If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it's a duck!” then beware, with Dodge (or AAM) it may NOT be a duck. Just like with the AAM ball joints, not all tie rod ends are created equal. Here are some pictures of the 521223692AE right outer tie rod end. You can see it is not the usual ball and socket rod end. It allows no front to back movement and very limited side to side movement, only an inch at the tip of the stud. The one pictured had some vertical play which is partly why I condemned it, though I cannot find any specs so don't know if it was still acceptable by Dodge standards or not. The rest of the rod ends appear to be "normal" ones with full circular movement (about two inches of range at the tip of the stud) and no vertical movement.

That would explain the breakage issue, if the alignment tech doesn't take a minute and make sure both tie rod ends are exactly in line when finished the lack of movement on the right can cause the left one to be stressed to the point of breakage.



Thanks for popping the top on that end. Now I understand what is happening with the "Tie rod end separating during low speed tight turns"... ...
