Oh my... . you guys are too much LOL

I can assume it's safe to say the fella that started this thread would not have liked following any of my last three trucks. black quarter panels are kinda like racing stripes for diesels.

In every category of life you have some fools, these forums are not any different. Certainly I believe that most Cummins Diesel Drivers and owners are responsible adults, who care about the surroundings and our sport enough to resist the temptations that are repeatedly broadcast of this and other similar forums by what amounts too as a few fools that like to act like idiots. These same people like to brag about not only there trucks, but the fun they routinely seem to get out of "Smoking them Out", Tailgating smaller cars to annoy the drivers, and dangerous driving habits that are nothing more then dumbbo the clown trying too intimidate others.

It is actions like these that get litigation started to seriously hinder if not curtail certain aspects of our sport. While I do not support most issues restricting diesel street trucks, I certainly can see why some people push to get these regulations on record. Anyone, diesel owner or not that gets amusement from deliberately "Smoking out others" or driving in such a manor that it afiends or out right scars others is no friend of our sport. They are simply near sighted individuals, that have serious self worth issues, and must suffer from the " short man syndrome".

I have no problem with normal people having fun, nor do I proclaim to be mister perfect, but there is a very size-able line between being fun and being just plain stupid.

My truck smokes pretty bad, even at idle. My right rear quarter IS black most of the time. Not sure how to clean it up, though. :(

If you got a fair amount of smoke at idle it sounds like you should check into some things before throwing different injectors at it. Yes the 300s aren't that good but I have a set in my '98 right now and they're hardly what you'd call smokey. None at idle, a little puff off idle sometimes, and only a light haze at WOT. I have a stock cam plate though.

If you've never done it you should service your prefilter and make sure there's no leaks letting air get sucked into your fuel system ahead of the lift pump. Very often the preheater is bad, and when it goes bad it lets air get sucked in. Replace the preheater, or just get rid of it. Another source for a leak is the 90* elbow, which hardens and gets brittle over time. A third source is where the hard line from the tank enters the preheater assembly. There's a little rubber O-ring that gets brittle and loses its seal, allowing air to be drawn in.

So, air getting into the fuel system will produce a lot of smoke as well? That could explain some things. Signal has seen the claptrap I have for a fuel system the P. O. blessed me with. Of course, I've known about it for a few months now. I could have done something about it.

I suffer from SGS also. (Soot Guilt Syndrome) I always enjoy seeing a good puff or short contrail by others, But usually feel guilty about my own smoke. I get some from stop signs and lights if I use moderate throttle at low boost. I try to limit Black Death when ever in traffic.

It almost sounds like this fellow would have to TRY to get that effect. Poor form from the short sighted who wont care when the crackdown comes. They will just move on to some other "fad" to ruin for others.

They do try for that effect...

I saw a red dodge in either OK or TX on one of my trips to New Mexico that was idling and belching black smoke... he was really proud of his nightmare on wheels by the way he tried to race me at every redlight... it didn't even run that good (I really didn't stay behind him that long... :-laf )

I thought the whole thing was quite stupid at the time... and I still think it is...

A little smoke (or even a lot) under hard acceleration is ok by me, but not barfing black clouds when just sitting at an idle... to each his own I guess, but that just gives the greenies something else to cry about and forces EPA to further restrict us with things like "particulate filters"...

Wonder how long it may take a particulate filter to plug on my rig? :p

Even the 100% OEM engine on a school bus will plug up the muffler with carbon. A replacement straight through muffler will allow the turbo to sing. Drivers ask what that noise it. :-laf

I love a shot of black smoke when I stomp on the skinny peddle. However the point is I can control it. Black smoke pouring from the exhaust when the engine isn't under load is not normal, under 99% of the conditions encountered.

Not necessarily good when I let my 12 year old behavior out of my 45 year old body. Fun to do sometimes, though. :D Sorry for interrupting the thread. I got interested in it because my truck definitely needs some smoke reform. I don't use it as a weapon or anything. In fact, I'm pretty self-conscious about watching the smoke waft by the truck when I'm sitting at a light. I'll probably end up changing injectors like Signal says, and replacing the mess I have for fuel supply tubing to see if I can clean it up. Carry on with the good thread. The 12 year old is back under control. :)

Just because you grow old does not mean you have to grow up.

When we laugh it puts us all back a few years and we can take a quick reality break. . . keep it up.

well reading what other guys have to say ,,, we are a bunch of kids or we wouldn't have these trucks or stacks or big turbos or the or the smoke ,, but its sure damm funny when your at a light and the bone head next to you has his window down and man my foot sure gets heavy and seeing that smoke go in one window and out the other :-laf

just thing about that growing up thing ,,, well, when i grow up i'm going to pull my 12 valve motor out and put it in a viper and put a big o redneck stack out the hood :--) :-laf :-laf :-laf

I have "soot guilt syndrome" also. I really have to think about it to rationalize whether or not to smoke somebody. Usually I don't, but every now and then  Some dummy gets it! :--) :D
