I passed emission testing yesterday. It was a "snap" test for opacity. I got 1. 6% of an allowable 40%.

I took the test with the truck in a "de-tuned" condition. I rotated the fuel pin back to it's stock position. Couldn't get the truck to smoke this way no matter how hard I tried.

Pin is now back in it's non-environmental position!!

This is the first month of a new testing program after 2 years of revamping the "program".

Testing is done at local garages using equipment by Agbar Technologies.

One big issue its that there are only about 45 places in the state that can do diesels. PIA Most won't even let you watch!

Having just bought a house in Georgia and sequentially registering the vehicles, I found out their emmissions testing is only for vehicles between the years 93-2001. And diesels are exempt. Boy was I relieved. YAHOOOo.

Emissions

When i had mine done in October, i sat in the pass. seat and watched the EGT cause this was my concern, when he jumped on it WOT and held it, the EGT's went to 900* and then he let off at which time i was about to tell him to let up. (pyro is post turbo) cause they only wtch the computer screen. i too went in with a little detuned, he did make a comment that i must have it turned up a bit, cause it did hold 20# of boost, in 4th gear. I think his leg was a little short, cause i can make 30# pulling a hill with my trailer.

just my penny's worth.

Marv,

Yea, I hear you. I watched this test... . I walked out of a place the day before that refused to let me even be within earshot... screw them.

This guy did not really snap the throttle... rather he slowly brought the rpm up to about 1500/1600 and held it there and cycled it that way when the computer told him to.

That tells me the test is too subjective and thus bogus.

3 years ago when the State was doing the testing, I had a 88 Ford gasser... the straight 6. I had to run out and stop the test because there was antifreeze spewing out from the hood. I think he had it in 5th gear at 25 mph and had the throttle pegged.

That never happened to me before or after the test.

Lucky for the state (and me) they did not blow a head gasket.

I complained thru proper channels but it fell upon deaf ears.

I just don't trust those people.
