I was planning to install my new amp under the passenger seat. I decided to pill the other seats & the rubber floors to run the wires & put down a couple of layers of b-quiet while I was there. The passenger floor is wet from about where the A/C drain is back to the seat. It is clear water, not anti freeze.

I have the sound deadener that goes under the dash propped up & a heater running in the cab to help dry it out. Any ideas what I can do to seal it? or did I start a much bigger project than I planned? :(

The most likely cause of the leak is the third brake light on the back of the cab. It could also be the AC drain pipe. Putting a hose on the drain pipe fixes that one. Other less likely thing is the door seals.

Grab a piece of hose with a 90 bend in it that will slip over the A/C drain. Secure it to the drain with a hose clamp. You can let the hose hang down behind the axle. It really helps pull the water out while you're driving. Before I did this mod, my truck would leak a huge puddle out whenever I stopped after having the A/C on. Now, it's just the normal amount of water that drips while parked. No problems with wet floorboards either.

Thanks!

The floor is dry at the back of the cab & on the drivers side, so I don't think its the brake light. I'll try the 90 & hose extension, I also get a musty mildew smell when I run the a/c or defrost so the drain may be partially plugged.

bkroupa,

been there same problem as you only passenger side front wet. once you lift the carpet by the door you will see a chanel there and how the water only gets up front . then you will say its the third brake light. than when you remove the third brake light you will see the cheap gasket that hardly worked at all. iv been there done that. i used some of that black tar looking window sealer to fix the brake light. now all is dry for a year now.

BUt like you i have that musty mildew smell from the defrosters. anybody know whats up with that?

After looking at it some more, it may be leaking at the 3rd light, but It is wet up the firewall on that side up to the drain. I'll re seal the light & add a longer drain tube :)

I'll leave the floor covering out until I'm sure the A/C is not leaking.

Thanks!!!!!

The musty mildew smell is from the A/C coil. When the A/C is in use (including defrost), the coil gets wet from the refrigerant passing through it. If you shut down with the coil moist, mildew starts growing. Best way to prevent it is to run the vents for a while before shutting down to help the coil dry out.

A/C Drain Hose Part #

You can get the molded hose from NAPA that fits the a/c drain.

Part #9808 and cost about $10.

I would clean out the drain before installing the hose as the drain might have some debris inside that is causing the problem.

crabman :)
