Buying wholesale

Remember several things: there are two kinds of dealers (in Colorado, at least), buyer agents and dealers who try to make as much money as possible on each sale. If possible, go through a buyer's agent (be sure to ask if he has a dealer's license because if he does he can make money on both sides of the deal - not a good deal for you).

I go through Auto Buyer Protection Services in Denver. Doug Ehrlich charges a fee and orders precisely the vehicle you want through one of his many fleet manager contacts.

I am getting my '03 3500 for $100 below invoice, less $500 that Dodge is rebating.

Remember that salespeople at a dealership have one thing in mind and that's to sell you a vehicle at the highest possible price. Your job is to buy it at the lowest possible price.

I go to a dealership to look at vehicles. I go to a buyer's agent to buy one. 'Nuff said.

Jeremiah thats got to feel GOOD :D How if you could just take it to Cummins for all of the engine warranty work ;)

Dodge is rebaiting 2003's, I havn't seen or heard of it, cool if they are, sounds like a sreamin' deal at 100 below, I ordered my '03 3500 from Montana Dodge in Billings Mt. at 500 over invoice, best I could find. I've bought a '97 3500 at $400 over and a '00 at $ 200 over. They are usually about $100 over Dave Smith. Smith wouldn't quote me this go round said he did'nt want to be used as qouting service! His price over the phone was $250. 00 over MT. dodge, but he would't send me anything to compare units. Give MT. dodge a tray they have been good to me.

Now that's the kind of deal I'm talkin' 'bout!

Just need to find that in N. Carolina (or within 500 miles or so!) Ahh, heck, I wouldn't mind the road trip to Colorado anyway! :D

Edmunds Site

The Edmunds site is really useful. Compare the list vs invoices prices. You'll see that invoice is about 87% of list price. Using that as a rule of thumb just make your offer at that percentage of the list and let it stand if you want that truck.

I used an non profit organization in Washington DC that solicited dealers for my business. Their income actually comes from the $250. 00 I paid them but I got a complete listing on the model I was interested in, invoice and list prices, and 6 or 7 dealer responses w/ a POC. Replies ran from cost to cost + $400. 00. Pick the dealer of your choice, call em up and go on in. I ordered my truck after we searched the regional inventory. If you are interested in this group send a PM, I'll get out my stuff and reply.

Scobby It Would Be a Great Trip

Colorado is really nice this time of year. Was just there up on Pikes Peak about 3 weeks ago. You can see FOREVER... .

Also that would be a fun trip, I mean cruising in a new Ram going back home. How sweet that would be.

Oh before I forget - make sure you get it washed before you pull into your hometown.

Rebate? Well ...

I'm not sure it's an across-the-board rebate. I responded to something I saw on the Dodge website and got a targeted response that offered $500 off the dealership price as long as I bought before 9/30. :D Gotta love it as long as it works!

Sounds like everyone here is getting a fair deal, I stopped by karmart in burlington wa. yesterday, to measure frame for gooseneck mount, and say that they had market adjustment on the '03s, + $ 3700. 00, wow they must have been in the sun to long. It's been sunny here for 3-4 weeks. When a sales man ask if I could be helped I giggled and said no thank you. You would have to be a rubb to pay OVER sticker. I think this is bad PR for d. c. , if I say that I'd go acroos the street and buy a ford or chev... .

I got the rebate info in the mail, and an offer for you to place an order and secure your $500 off.

Another benefit in Washington State is to get the Farm Bureau Rebate of $500 too (if that is still active) so there is a potential of $1,000 off in this state. I have retained my Farm Bureau membership ever since I got my current truck. Costs $15 annually.

I am thinking about maybe trading to an '03 next August when they are closing them out and bringing in the '04s.

Rebate stuff

Yes, that's correct. The $500 certificate I have was sent from Dodge, but it has Farm Bureau on it. Now you say there's ANOTHER $500 out there somewhere? Man, lead me to it!

The rebate certificate I have said if I wanted even more savings to tear off the bottom part and mail it in. Maybe somebody'll gimme another $500 off, huh?

Actually, I think the only reason they sent this certificate was because I filled out a C/D form I found on the 'Net saying the only way I would consider buying a Dodge was if it had a Cummins rattlin' away under the hood. :)

Let's here about the rebate, I've got he f. b. . But I recieved nothing in the mail, most of my D. C. mail goes to my MT. adress though. Maybe thats why the old man is look at '03's also.

My wife used to be a fleet manager at our local Dodge dealership, and has sold cars at several dealerships... ... she says the only way to buy a new car or truck is to ask to look at the Dealers "original invoice" to see what the Dealer paid from Dodge. They still make a tidy profit if they sell it at invoice, due to incentives from the factory etc... . Once you have seen the Original Inv. , offer them 100. dollars over the Inv... . if they won't take it, leave them your PH. # and walk, tell them your going to a dealer who will deal with you. In the industry it is called a mini-deal... . she does caution though, usually only dealers who do a decent volume will go for this, seems smaller dealers fall in love with their stock on hand and try to make big profit on each deal, rather than turn over alot of vehicles. One other tip, she says alot of times at the end of the month you can really score good deals if the dealer is close to reaching an incentive goal set by the factory, you can even pick up deals below original invoice if they want to hit their goal.

Buying wholesale

That's correct. There are two dealer invoices, the one they will show you and the one that takes into account factory incentives to the dealer, hold-backs, etc. IF a buyer's agent is plugged in and knows his stuff, he can tap into this.

Rebates are confessed up front by law. Incentives are not. Hold-backs are not confessed either because they are designed to help a dealer pay for advertising, floor-planning, etc.

People think a dealer owns all those cars sitting on his lot. Not true. A bank owns them and the dealer may be paying a low rate of interest for operating on the bank's money. That's why it's to the dealer's advantage to move the inventory quickly.

Amsoil all the way, huh?

After I get my new truck broken in I'd be interested in talking to you about switching over to Amsoil. I've found it to be a pain in my automobile and went back to using regular oil. That's mainly because I live in the boonies and there are few places to dispose of oil that I change myself.

When I ordered my 2002 4X4 with almost every conceivable option minus the sliding rear window, I did a little homework first, as follows.

Order a Consumers Reports pricing sheet by phone for delivery via fax or snail mail, add all the options you want, visit several dealers for price quotes, if they come in about 2% over dealers cost per pricing sheet, order truck and wait for about two months, no hassle buying, and you got a good deal!

Went that route and bought the truck from Grants Pass Lithia in Oregon, to top that off they have a program for lifetime oil/filter changes every 3,000 miles as long as you own the truck for a one time fee of $500. 00, can't beat that with a stick.

Yup, the Lithia dealer in Denver has that deal too. Unfortunately, there ain't no Lithia/Dodge dealers around here that I know of. Maybe I'll make in inquiry locally and see if I can arrange to make my own deal on oil! :) :) :)

In August a friend of mine bought a new 2002 3500 QC 4x4 that listed for $37K, bought it using DC Business Link (don't know much about business link) He paid $28K for the truck, the truck had been used by the dealer as a demo and at the State fair for display and had 2-3K miles on it. (Still a heck of a deal) The Dealer also gave him 25 free oil and filter change coupons, that should cover him to 100K miles. Why can't I ever get these deals? The truck was that pretty dark green, but it was an auto without the camper package which I am sure helped on the price. He bought it at Aurora Dodge in Aurora Missouri

Sounds like a good deal, although I'm not up to speed on used vehicles. I used to be in the new car brokerage business representing buyers only. I've found that used car dealers invariably will ask "What 'cha gotta have for it?" when you bring a used car to 'em. I hit 'em with a high ball figure, to which they come back with, "That's way too much. The most I can give you is (fill in the blank). " If you can get two or three dealers offering the same figure, you can figure retail is a coupla thousand more than that. Knock a thousand off then run a firm add in the local mullet wrapper and make the extra bucks yourself.

I'm afraid I can beat that oil change deal. I bought my truck from Broadway Dodge in Littleton CO (Denver), and they provide 3000 mile oil changes for as long as you own the truck, at no extra charge. Unfortunately, I moved to Tucson, so I need to figure out what to do with it here. Can't really do it myself now as I am currently living in an apartment.
