Just curious, does Piers set the wastegates at 40psi on his HX 40's before he sends them out or do you need to put a different fitting in there?

I believe he told me they set them at 38psi unless it is one you send them to be reworked. In that case they leave the wastegate setting alone.

I just got one from him last week. It was installed at his shop and I only got 30 psi of boost with it. He told me that he needs to set the wastegate to start opening at that pressure so that guys who are 'heavily fueled' don't exceed 40 psi boost. I swapped in the elbow that came with my comp box and now I can hit 40 psi in 4X5. I had to back out in 5X5 though as I hit 43 psi when I nailed it WOT... ... . against his advice on letting it live so I will be getting an adjustable elbow... ... . or maybe more fuel;)

PDR hx40 wastegate

Hey Blackdog,

I've had my PDR hx40 for a couple months now. When Piers sold it to me at Muncie, he said it was gated at 40psi. He also told me not to use a boost elbow. With a #10 plate pretty far forward, the most I ever saw was 38psi. With a custom ground plate (probably similar to a 0), I have seen 41psi once, usually right on 40psi max.

I did as Piers suggested, so far so good and I don't drive it easy:rolleyes: either.

Hope this info helps,

Cousin Billy

Piers can set up the wastegate depending on what you currently have. If you don't have a boost elbow, then Piers will set up the waste gate to open at 38 PSI. Since I have an ajustable boost elbow, he left the waste gate alone and I adjust the boost elbow for more or less boost.

As of right now mine is only seeing 28-30 psi with Comp on level 4, As far as performance goes it runs extremely well for what I'm doing with it. I've got the 40 on my 01 that I use as my tow truck. I stood on it pretty hard today w/Comp on level 4 and I was running probly 90-100mph and was only running 1250 degrees. Which is extremely good considering I've got a pretty decent size injector and with the comp. Spool up is great, I cant tell any difference of that of the a HX 35w/12. It's an extremely smooth turbo and pulls hard throughout the entire RPM range. I'm not really looking for all out performance with this truck b/c of having my 97 but I just thought I should be seeing at least 40 psi. With the HX35, 40psi was no problem. Thanks for the reply fellas.

Today,

Myself and Aaron "aotte" installed the restrictive evil elbow on his PDRHX40 (it has the 18 exhaust housing) he was seeing a top boost of 30 psi with DD3's and Comp, with the elbow installed he is hitting 36 no problem!

Also the truck is alot more responsive on the lower end, and spools up a heck of alot faster.
