Well,

I ve had my Ats manifold POD's And rip rook exhaust on for a week or so but i;ve been wanting on an PDR hx 35/16

Well got home from work today and there it was, i jumped out to the shop and started the installation , had it installed in about an hour, Primed it and fired the truck up for the first time in a month.

I did'nt touch any of my pump settings,( just bumped the timing up a hair) but first thing i noticed was the idle, it's about 150 rmp lower than before, and the idle seem rough, like a big block with a cam in it, but at 1000 rpm it smooths right out.

So first question is the idle suppose to be kinda lopey (rough)???

i jumped in and took it for a ride, first thing i notice was the turbo wine this thing is unbelievable is sounds like it's trying to suck my K&N inside out, time to put the Old Smokey back on, if you want turbo whine this is it, for a long trip i may have to put the silencer ring back in (NOT).

Seat of the of the pants feel, the turbo lag is slightly more than than the h1c with the 14cm but just barely, with a quick take off the line it does seem to smoke quit allot (but thats a good thing right???) but clears up some what a couple of miles down the road. as for power the truck seems to be quit a bit quicker, i have'nt really hammered it yet because of the new turbo, but i can tell you the DTT trans is getting a work out.

At 65 mph flat cruise the old turbo would run 5-10 psi boost, the new turbo runs between 2-3 psi at cruise but it only takes a tap of the throttle and boost is up to 20 +, on a steady acceleration up to 80 mph boost pegged my 30 psi gauge, so it looks i'll be getting a new boost gauge ASAP.

Rip rook Exhaust system fit like glove, i ended up ordering the system without a muffler trying to save some shipping weight, and bought a 9x27" dynomax performance diesel muffler, it is allot quieter than my old system which surprised me. seeing how i can just about put my whole arm thru the muffler and for the most part it's an empty shell with about 2" of baffle at each end.

that about it until i get a chance to drive i little more, any help with the idle problem, if it is a problem will be appreciated

:D :D

With the installation of the POD's you'll see a drop in idle speed. I lost about 100rpm or so when I did mine. This is because the POD's don't atomize as well as the factory injectors and popoff is a bit later. You just need to crank the idle screw up a bit. Setting the timing up to 1. 4mm will help too. Should be idling at around 700-750rpm in gear with ac on. This usually is about 850rpm in neutral/park with no ac.

Since you haven't touched anything else on the pump, that explains the smoke on takeoff with no boost. You can adjust the pump to reduce the smoke, but who want's to do that eh? :-laf

Oh, my rip exh system got delivered today Oo. Can't wait for tomorrow morning to put it on :D What did you use for hangers?

Cheers,

Sean

Sean,

For hangers i got Rip to send me some j hooks, and i welded them to some 4" mufler clamps, i removed the factory hangers and split them in half then repostioned them where i needed them, i picked up 5 new figure 8 ruber dounut isolaters from Advance auto bolted the dougnut to the hanger and hooked the j hook and clamp thru the bottom of the dounut, for a little added strenth i rapped #32 stainless hose clamps around the dounus.

probably easier to see it i go take some pictures ... .....

Rick,

Thanks for the pics. I installed my system yesterday. At first, I left out the muffler to hear how it sounded straight piped. (just happened to have the necessary connector handy) Well, it still resonated pretty well inside the cab. The resonation was more annoying by itself... when I had the stacks on, they were pretty loud, so it wasn't as noticable. So, after getting annoyed with the resonation, and the fact that I had a brand new muffler I paid for just sitting there, I installed the muffler today. Many thanks to my buddy who let me use his lift  It fits well, but the muffler is pretty dang long (about 40" end to end). I'd like to have a bit more clearance between the axle and the beginning of the first upward turn of the tailpipe at the rear of the muffler. (granted, I'd have to load the truck down quite heavily to get the pipe real close to the axle) I used some pre-made hangers to hang the pipe under the truck. They're in just about the same locations as yours. For the rear, I re-located the factory hanger back about 2"

Cheers,

Sean

It was a sad, sad day when they were removed. :( The turbo sounds even better now though :D The exhaust is pretty quiet, but still has a good rumble when the right foot hits the floor
