Is anyone running one? I will be adding some DDIIs sooner than later and want to know how well it works. With the new injectors I think I could get away with my stock turbo, but I would like a quicker spooling turbo to reduce smoke. What do you guys think? Am I on the right track. Is it worth it, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Your opinions are appreciated.

TIA, Marc

Start with the PDR-40/16. It spools like a stock hx/35 or faster. I also live at 5000ft and pull up to 10,000 feet without egt probs.

Well you know for about $200 or so less(not sure, don't quote me) than the PDR HX35 you can send your turbo to Piers have them modify it.

Not sure if a lot of people know that or not  I know if I could be without my truck for that long I would have already sent mine off.

Better figure $400

When I send mine new purchase second low mileageHX35 to peirs it require an overhaul too that adds $200 extra. beware Peirs doe it right, he won't modity a piece of junk.

It still a good deal. ;)

Depends on what you plan to do with the truck. if your already planning on stage 2 injectors, I'd get the HX40 probably end up cheaper in the long run... ... ..... ;) ;) plus the 40 spools up great.

I don't want to replace my stock turbo but want to upgrade the injectors. Will the stock turbo handle the DDII's or should I not press my luck and go with the DDI's??? I prefer the DDII's if possible...

Neither of you state what you use your truck for, heavy towing, light towing, medium towing or just running around town. I would think your stock hx's would be fine for everything up to medium towing, some trucks can tow medium loads with intake mods and exhaust mods. some trucks can tow heavier loads. If you are just running around town, II's won't be a problem.

I run III's without an elbow and have no problems, but I am not towing, even though this June I will be pulling my 8'x16' enclosed cargo trailer from MA to CA. (after clutch)

Do a search on DDII's and towing, should give you some answers.

I know alot of people tow with an ez and II's, but don't know their turbo info.

Piers modified HX35 feedback

Marc, I had one of the very first Piers modified HX35 units (replacement for HY35 stocker) and its been on my truck for almost 2 years now. My only advice to you is to be very clear about what your performance and reliability expectations are up front and then you won't be disappointed. Then run this by Piers and make an informed judgement.

My own truck is not too radical ;) (see details in profile below) but I have been very pleased and have no complaints. I didn't go for the HX40 at the time, because it was still at the prototype stage and I was off shortly, Europe bound.

Good luck with your final choice - you won't be disappointed either way!

I use my truck to commute to work mainly. It's about 100 mi round trip 90% freeway. I tow a 5000lb trailer about 2X a month. The power upgrades are just to put a smile on my face on my way home from work. EGTs don't concern me too much. If it gets hot, I'll slow down. The 40 is starting to sound good. I guess I'll have to wait until I get the injectors in. Thanks guys:)

With my III's I find it very easy to control smoke, just slowly roll on the go pedal. I don't think egt's will be a problem with 5000lbs, and like you said you can always down shift.

I don't think you will need a turbo until you get the box.

I have the PDR HX35/14 on mine and pull 10k 5er... I am still running the stock 215 injectors with a #11 plate. Sometimes I wished that I would have went with the PDR HX40. With the way Piers sets his turbos up. . it would not surprise me for the 40's to spool nearly as quick as the 35's... . If yo have the money to spend. . call Piers and ask him. . what ever he says. . you can take it to the bank...

Then write the check.....
