HVAC & I spent a couple of fun hours this afternoon installing my PE Comp Module.

Now the ’01 hoots & skoots. Still not quite like HVAC’s NEW TWIN TURBO set up!

I ‘m running around town at the 5X5 level . Man alive this is what MAMA warned you about. SEX, DRUDS, & ROCK’ & ROLL all in 1 small box!!!!!

I know, I know kiss the transmission BY-BY! Well, on 1X1 or off it’s no harm; no foul. Right? Look out Boston here I come!

   :D :D

Glad to hear you like it. I'm trying to convince myself that I need to go ahead and order one. Was the installation difficult? I can do most mechanical things such as rebuild a small block chevy or change a 3208 Cat in a dump truck but I'm electronically challenged when it comes to the new stuff. Thanks for any advice!

You could easily do it yourself, its just a few simply connections, the hardest part is getting the harness through the firewall usually. And the injection pump wire you have to tap is a lil difficult to get at, but other then that its a breeze.

Yea, What he said!

Yea What he said! I see you have an auto transmission. You will find out real fast how much it slips.

There is a rubber plug on the firewall where the clutch linkage didn’t go that is the perfect place to feed the wire through. Read the directions carefully two or three times before you start and have a couple of new gaskets for the intake. ENJOY!!

:p :D

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'm going over the "edge". I'll let y'all know how it works out. Thanks again.

a word of caution... . i installed mine, and within less than a half hour of having a blast running it, my truck is dead. i think it somehow killed my injection pump, which i will now probably need to pay for. i dont know if i'll dare re-install it... i'll let you know what i find out. my truck is at the dealership now

injector pumps

There are other posts about boxes killing the injection pump. It is really the pumps fault , as the bad ones will usually kill right away after installation. Your pump would likely have failed soon anyway (probably one mile over warranty).

There are other threads about this. Hopefully your box was off when the dealership got the truck. You have a 100k mile warranty on the pump.

Best of luck. :(

dead injector pump

Thanks 45A1. I've already had one dead injector pump at 19000 miles. That is an ordeal I don't want to go thru with again. Maybe I'll stay cool and think about this a little while longer. Don't worry you didn't talk me out of it but it is something to think about and I appreciate you letting your experience be known.

wire tap

If the dealership sees you have messed with the injector pump solenoid wire, you are SOL and will have to foot the bill. I think the pin prick connectors can be removed and leave no discernable trace. The regular tap connectors can leave a gap in the wire insulation. If you go to the dealer with your boxes hooked up, count on having some warranty voided.

Hooking the boxes up just causes the bad injector pumps to fail, the good pumps will keep on going. Better to find out you have a bad one while under warranty, than wait until after the 100k mark.

so far so good!

Well I've run with the "BOX" from CA. to Penn. and the truck runs like a big block gass 1/2 ton hotrod. In NV I was passing 40 ' 18 wheelers going from 85 to 110 in 40 ft. I find that 5X5 & 4X5 don't do much for the top end running. I feel in my gut that w/stock injetors there is no way to use all the fuel the box wants to pump. 3X5 is the hot setting for running 85 + on the X-way. 2X5 seems to work well @ 65>80. 1X5 or 2X5 do real well in Chitown traffic. LOOOV MY BOX!! so far. Oh Yea I' getting 19>21 mpg. :D :D :D :D :D

I have been told by my service manager that if you have any injection pump trouble and they can see evidence of any wires being spliced into they will not honor the warranty.

I have a VA that plugs into the back of the injection pump and no wires are altered. For what reason do the Edge products have to tap into a wire? Couldn't they incorporate that circuit into the connecting plug? Just wondering.

I would probably own a Comp if it was "stealth" like the VA.

Just my thoughts.

The reason they go to the pump wire is because you are limited as to what you can do on the CANbus. TST hit the limit of the CANbus way back in early 99 and decided it wasn't enough and went to the pump wire for more. The computer in the VP44 will only allow so much fueling - the pump wire is on the other side of the VP44 comp so can do more.

45A1,

Have your Lift Pump tested immediately after the vp44 installation is completed. Change the fuel fiter too.

Sorry to even have to read about such a problem. :(

Why is it at the dealership?

If the dealership is not going to do the work under warranty why would you get the work done there? You can pay twice as much for sub par service if you want, but any diesel injection shop will sell a rebuilt pump and any good diesel mechanic can put it on. If nothing else get a Cummins service center to do the work, but Dodge (or any other dealership) is lost when something needs service. They just replace stuff until the problem goes away, what do they care, you get to pay for it.

You Made Good Time Jim

Jim, you must have had KC-10's standing by for inflight refueling!:)

I still chuckle when I recall the look on the faces of the folks at the muffler shop when you showed them that nice burnout!

For those that don't want to tap the pump wire, you would appreciate the EZ module. It plugs in and can be easily removed. The Comp is a multi function module that incorporates the EZ function along with the huge horsepower gain from a clip on box, all in one. Each of the five power levels has five settings for the low end power delivery. This is to provide smoke control for driving in town etc.

Enjoy your hot rod Jim:D
