Wanted to get my new PE Comp in before a long trip this weekend. But, I think I was sent the wrong harness. Anybody know the connections on an 'early' 2001?

1. My MAP sensor is a 3way flat.

2. My data link connection is not under the MAP sensor, so they said it could be near the steering pump. Lots of wires running around that area. I can't find it.

Here's what my PE harness looks like:

1. Gray 3pin female triangle connection (on main), with a male triangle (black/green) 3pin flat connector.

2. Black round (triangle 3pin on inside) connector with black/purple 3pin triangle connector (all coming off the same run of the main harness). I think this is supposed to be the MAP sensor connection.

I know what the rest of the stuff is. To the cab/box, fuse, and ground, etc.

I already have my PE 3light in, so I don't have to mess with the injection pump, boost elbow, etc. Just need to plug it all in.

Any help or tips appreciated.

The data link connection should be a flat three prong plug. It will have a "dummy" plug in it on the truck. I have actually seen it in 4 different locations.

If the data link on your harness is a grey triangle then I do believe you have the wrong year harness. Did they include an adapter with it? On the 98. 5 to 2000 they use the same harness but include an adapter for the plug for the 2000's. The 2001 and up is a different program. So it gets the exclusive harness. I would get a different harness.

Walker, what year model is on the side of the box? It should be stamped.

Check these images, does your Comp have these connectors?

The picture that Fred shows is for the 98. 5 - 2000. the grey connector is for the 98. 5- 99. the flat adaptor plugs into the grey one and is for the 2000.

The 2001 uses a flat map sensor plug

The 98. 5 - 2000 uses the round or triange map sensor plug.

On the 98. 5 -99 The gray triangle plug can be on the left side of the motor around the data plate or lower. it will be with a 2 pin connector. the 2 pin connecter is a - and + for scan tool the cummins uses.

Hope this helps.

Yes he could use the harness with the adapter. But I would get the correct harness and be done with it, one less connection to worry about "falling" out or going bad. The 2001 and up is a completely different program then the 98. 5 to 2000, so I would also verify your COMP has a 2001 program.

Call Edge and they will take care of you, just explain what the deal is.

Thanks

Fred,

Yes, that's my harness. That means I have the wrong MAP sensor plug.

Kat,

What's the difference in the 2001 program? I asked about special programs for DD2's and Taylor said "they are all the same" since they are so adjustable.

Also, I found a 3 prong plug w/ a dummy plug in it, mounted on top of the plate/bracket that the lift pump goes into. Is this the plug for the grey 3pin triangle (w/ adapter)? The data link connection?

I'll call Edge today.

Thanks boys

Yes, the one on top of your lift pump is the data connection. You'll probably need to call who you purchased the Comp from and get the right year model.

Let me know if I can help at all.

For everyone's information - I spent an hour looking for the data link connection on my 2002 ETH. Finally found it just forward of the fuel filter about 2/3 of the way down the filter housing. The plug was shoved back against the engine block behind another harness. The good news is - still no VOID stickers on the data link connection or the MAP sensor plug.

Well Taylor is right, there is basically "one" version of the PE COMP. But 98. 5 to 2000 and then 2001 and up are different programs due to the differences in the map sensor voltages. There might be other differences but that is the main one. Thats why there is an EZ for 98. 5 to 2000 and then 2001 and up. Same with a PowerEdge, and I am guess the COMP as well. I too also asked about any other versions of the COMP because I wanted to make sure I had the one with the most added hp available. But there is only one "program level".

Yes you could use that adapter, but I would get a harness that deletes the adapter. If the person you got your COMP from can't help, I would jsut take it to Edge themselves. I have dealt with them since May of 2000 and they have always treated me right, So call and you'll prolly talk to Aaron, its his job to answer the phones and email.

I am not a dealer for Edge, but I do have exstensive experience with the PE, EZ and now the COMP. I always have a box of goodies for people to play with :D
