About a month ago I put a PE COMP and guages on my truck and it hauled Butt. And now it seems to have lost a step or two. I cant prove that its not as fast but it feels like it. When I put it on I could make it smoke on level 5/1 and now it wont smoke at all. I am still getting 35+ in boost and around 1300 ET at WOT. But still seems to be a little less powerful than before.

You could make it smoke on sublevel 1 ??? Wow...

Last time you checked the fuel pressure? Checked all the connections involved with the COMP?

You are just getting used to the power... ... Its time for your next BOMB.....

No really, has the weather down your way cooled off a bunch in the last month, I know my truck smokes like a locomotive (no offense Kat) in the summer, but I be darned if I can get much smoke in the fall and winter. Cool dense air is a good thing.

I did check all the connections and they are all OK. And my first tought was that I was getting used to the power. And yes it has cooled down a lot down here since I installed it. I didnt know that could effect the smoke that much. But it makes sense. It doesnt run worth a **** until it gets warmed up alot. Maby tomorrow I will plug it in and see if it helps at all. But in Texas it will be hot by then. :D

I see by your sig that you are in the "DTT yet to be installed" category. So am I. I also know that my transmission has deteriorated noticably since the bombs went in. Is it possible you're not getting as much horsepower to the ground because the transmission is getting tired?

I have 5 days to go before Bob Berends puts the DTT goodies in and saves my truck. In the mean time, I'm driving around with the Comp either off or on very low settings - that poor lil' torque converter just doesn't know what to do any more...

Eric, you seriously should check you fuel pressure!!

sounds just like my truck did the first time, my lift pump went out :D

I started to notice it lay down in third gear.

Ok over the last few days I have been testing it and it really does seem to have less power on level 5 and 4 but 3 seems ok. It feels like 3 has almost the power of 5. There dont seem to be the big difference that I used to notice. So how do I check the fuel pressure and where? Is there a place to hook up a guage for temp. purpose?? And where do i get a cheap guage?

IMHO the first time you expeirience any oddity in the way a diesel is running you should change the fuel filter. Then go about checking things from there.

And if you have been flogging the thing all over town that slushbox stock transmission might be getting a little tired :D call Bill K quick lol

you can check pressure at the Banjo on the VP44. for a test purpose that really is the spot to check from.

you will need a hose with a female schreader valve on one end of it and adapt the other end to pipe thread. to hold a cheap 0-30 or so guage.

the best place to find the hose you need is at a comm/residential heating and cooling parts supply. take the cap from the fitting on your truck in with you, and they can match it up with a hose and fitting you'll need. get a hose that is at least three (3) feet long. so you can put it on the pump and run it up and stick it under the windshield wiper for a road test. this way you can read it while your driving to see what WOT pressures are like.

DC's spec is anything under 7PSI at idle they will replace. my first one was 8-10 and they swaped it anyway. I good friendly dealer should be willing to work with you.

the whole mess should be more than $25

Maybe Trans

I put a EZ on my truck for 1 month before I went to DTT.

Thought I was just going for VB/TC and upgrade.

Ended up with complete rebuild. Yes, the trans did get a lot

looser over that month. I thought I was just getting used to

the extra power. When Bill and his guys finished and I was

headed south, I had the power back plus more.

67,000K on mine.

Might want to check out that trans.

Thanks for all the good advice. I plan on checking the pressure and changing the filter. I am the second owner and it has 30,000 miles and the filter has never been changed. Also going to call Bill today to see if I need any thing elese for the transmission since next week the TC&VB are going in. I think the problem is caused by all the above combined. I hate admit this but KatDiesel tipped me off to half the problem but being as stupid as I am and not looking at the obvious. When Kat said Level 5 and sub 1 I should have figured it out then. I was mixed up on the sub level portion I thought 1 ment more fuel 5 ment less. Dont know how I got mixed up. Because I new better than that. Some times you think yourself out of what you know is right. When I put it on sublevel 5 It smoked and took off again. :D
