MPG

Ok I got the comp installed Saturday night. Here is what I did. I drove up to Bend OR about 175 miles. On the way up I had my EZ edge set on level 3 and drove at 65 and got 17. 27 MPG. When I got to my brothers house we took out the edge and installed the comp. On my way back today I set the comp at level 2, sub level 1. I got 21. 34 MPG on the way back. That is GREAT! Now the elevation is a bit higher in Bend then here in Medford, so I would expect to get a bit better in the way back, but still that is a huge increase, I havent seen this good ever.

OK the POWER!

level 5 sub 5 will give you whiplash and a nice haze cloud. However I do have a dissapointment. With my EZ Edge I got off the line WAY faster then the comp at any level and I cant figure this out? I havent tried every single combination with the levels and sub levels but I got way more turbo lag until about 16-1800 rpms then the truck takes off like a rocket. You would think that I would get the same as the edge if not better????

Some people said that the level 1 on the comp is the same is level 3 on the EZ. I dont find this to be true at all. Seems like level 3 is about the same as the Edge but the comp may fuel longer. I would like to know exactly what level/sub-level is the same as the EZ on level 3, does anybody know?

The directions do not tell you very much about the levels. I would like to know what levels have what power hp rateing 1-5. And also it says in the directions the sub-levels are just for smoke control???? Well... ... ok so the lower the level the less smoke I get Im guessing. But I would like to little more detail about the levels. Does sub level one fuel the slowest or the fastes? Just needs a little more detail I think. If anyone can answer these questions, I would appreciate it!

Over all this box from 1500rmp and up is awesome! Well worth the upgrade.

oh ya my exhaust is much louder when I punch it too! And I also see 6 more lbs of boost.

:D  :p :)

Sky, I am considering the same upgrade, it sounds like you are a happy customer. I have a few questions for you thought. 1st, did you do any EGT comperisons? At this point I have never had to lift due to temps pulling anything. I understand with more power you will see more temps but is the increase in power worth the temps? I have also heard the comp doesn't respond as well on the ETH, on level 5-5 what are the seat of the pants improvements over the EZ. :p

Sky, put the Comp on level #1, then hold the round button down for 2 seconds and then let off, when you see the flashing lights(stock there are 3 on), use the right arrow and light up all 5. Press the round button once to turn off and then again to turn it back on. Now you're very close to the EZ on #3.

If you light up 4 bars on level #1, this is very close to level #2 on the EZ.

The power delivery is smoother than the EZ, so this may be what you're feeling.

Out of the box, the EZ settings are on #3 on all 5 Comp levels.

heh on level 5-5 is a huge difference over the EZ, this box is awesome.

EGT's do rise faster but thats expected, but its really not a problem yet as far as I can see. I ran home on level 2 and the egt was a bit lower actually.

"Is the increased power worth the temp"... ... ... ... ... ... . HELL ya!!

Ok thanks Fred Ill try that but wouldnt level 5-5 be even faster or just as fast off the line as level 1-5 ?

Sky, I too have just installed the PE-Comp. I have not checked my milage yet so was interested and pleased at your results. I have a 98. 5 24V with a 5sp, 275 injectors and the gauges with a bd-brake. We just towed a 4 horse trailer loaded and the truck loaded with camping gear over Conway summit (8,900ft) at 65mph at about 900 degress of exhaust temp. I was on level 2 with sub level 3. The power is just incredible. Passing cars at 65-70mph up a mountain pass is more fun than street rodding, the look of the guys face is something! Well I will do a milage check on a trip to sacramento this week and post the results.

Dave

Comp vs. EZ

Mike,

I know that I was one of the people that told you that level one (sub-level five) and the EZ (level three) are the same. I said this because this what I have heard from Edge and my personal experience. Remember that I have an ETC, not an ETH. I had borrowed an EZ before and I made 30 psi of boost on level three. I then put my Comp on and left the pump wiretap off and went for a test drive (level one, sub-level five). I again made 30 psi of boost and had the same seat of the pants feeling. I am sure you have read that the ETH responds well to the EZ and injectors and the ETC responds better to tapping the pump wire. To me, level three is a lot faster than the EZ ever was. I can slip my clutch pretty easy on level three and above. My clutch could hold the EZ (and other mods). I am glad that you are happy with your upgrade too.

Hope this helps,

Eric

running the comp without the pump wire tap?

How much addition HP could be added without tapping the pump wire?

I don't delieve I have ever seen anyone post actual hp #'s with a comp. Does anyone have any dyno #'s with the comp on a stock ETH? I know with the EZ its about 270, what are the actual numbers with the comp?

Should be around 320 hp. I think Kwikkurt dyno'd at 360-380 hp with rv injectors so just subtract about 40 hp for the injectors.

Come on guys I know there has to be someone out there with a comp on a ETH who has actually put it on a dyno. Whats the real scoop?

JMARKOS,

As OO posted My Truck turned out 359. 6 HP. This was on the Dyno at Diesel Dynamics During the MayMaddness event. My ETH was the first that Power Edge tested their Comp Box on and they did not expect quite that much power improvement. I have since added the DD3's and my KwikSpool Turbo. The Comp is a great box and I love being able to have 6 different power levels depending on what's needed. From Low smoke (residential to Hwy Mustang smoking Power :D;) :D
