I'm having a problem with a 9. 50-R-16. 5 Michelin tire. It's not on my diesel, but on the trailer I pull.

Maximum inflation is 80 psi. When I pull on rough gravel roads, it will lose about 30 to 50 pounds per day. On just rough roads. it'll lose maybe 25 pounds. Once I drive it on decent pavement, the leak slows down, and just ends, and it holds pressure just fine.

Any ideas? Rough bead surface on the wheel? I am cornfused!

Sounds like bead surface problem. I would have the wheel checked also and if that is not it have them check the bead surface and remount.

I am going to speculate...

That the valve stem is leaking. The extra vibration=extra air loss. Just my opinion. Soap it up and wiggle it to find out.

Could also be a cracked wheel. Only lets air out when flexed. Strange problem though. Let us know what fixes it. :)

I plan to have the tire dismounted next week to check the bead surface area, and maybe clean and repaint it. I will also watch for cracks. I don't know about the stem. We've tried that, and it's on its fourth. These wheels get the most gawrsh-awful use, hauling a gravel testing plant into some gawrsh-awful areas.
