Friends,

I purchased a plug in performance module for my 5500 Cab and Chassis that immediately improved pedal response and really woke up the truck. The module works on the pickups as well. I purchased a Diesel Domination Performance Module (https://www.powerupdiesel.biz/) to resolve the only issue with my new truck...the horsepower is derated from 385 to 325 and torque from 930 to 750 Lb Ft. Trust me, you can feel the difference in these numbers. I chose to put it on the 90HP setting to see how it does, but has stock, 30, 60, and 90 HP settings.

So, I received it in the mail today, installed it in about 30 minutes, and then wow. The pedal response is amazing and the power is awesome. I'm almost giddy about the improvement. The pedal is instant response, which is in itself a big plus if you're driving in traffic and need to move out smartly. The other part is getting on the interstate. I live a mile from I-10 where the speed limit is 75 MPH, meaning folks are going 80 - 85 MPH. And the acceleration lane is about 50' long. It felt really good to step into it and have it go. I didn't floor it, but I got right into traffic without hesitation and got right up to 75 MPH.

I am not worried about my warranty; I've been working with this dealer for 20 years and we are both honest and fair with each other. This

It's raining down here today and Fri, but if it's dry Saturday, I'm going out to test it out some more. The 5er is washed and waxed, so may take a while before I take it out to see how it does towing 21K lb 5er.

Anway, thought you folks complaining about pedal response and acceleration issues might find this to be an inexpensive fix for your trucks.

Cheers,

Ron

Cant wait to hear how it performed pulling the 5er. We too tow a 5er, although nothing that heavy. I agree the pedal delay is terrible and I would love to have a solution, but thats a lot of $$$$$$ at Christmas time. Let us know. Thanks for the input.

Larry, Will do. I'm always cautious about upgrades and didn't want to spend a lot either... there are solutions out there that are $1000 and up. In the past, I used Edge and Smarty that I reported great results on the 2nd and 3rd gen trucks. But this is much more noticeable. I had originally planned to not install an EGT gauge on my 5500, but since I just happen to have an old one new in the box that might find its way in the truck if I can find a place for it inside the cab.

Just another observation: This product isn't for the sled pullers, but more targeting folks with a budget way to "REFINE" their trucks.

Cheers, Ron

Ron, I'll be very interested in your feedback. So many things to like on the C&C. I followed your link, but the only late model 6.7 module I see says not for C&C.

I ordered it before the disclaimer was added that it doesn't work on C&Cs. So when I spoke with them they told me it worked on some C&Cs and some it didn't. I asked what it did on the ones that didn't. It sets a temp CEL immediately if not. Since it was already shipped it was worth a try. They are testing a guaranteed version due estimated January. If mine works out, I'm keeping it. The C&C platform is the perfect tow vehicle IMHO, with more power.

More to come. Ron

This product has been reported to consumer affairs quite a bit. I am wondering what is up with that, read the concerns. Also, can a non programmer really make the truck run different. This seems to be after the programming module. With respect to the throttle enhancer I have it doesn't fix the dead pedal much at all and that's probably because its not really changing the programing, just amplifying what it sees. I wonder if this module would only be able to do the same based on how it is installed vs a true reprogram like you do with a smarty product

Seems like it claims to boost rail pressure. Do other tuners work with fuel, turbo, boost, and more and is it safe to boost power by just using the rail pressure

I hope it works. This company doesn't have a very good customer service history.

Drove it again in the rain. The throttle response improvement is the best attribute so far. I never floor the accelerator on my C&C, but again I like the improved accelaration getting on I-10. I decided to not install an EGT gauge on this truck, too much trouble to drill it and gauge light would need its own dimmer. I'm looking forward to trying it towing. I liken this to the Edge Tow Pro I had on my 02 and 03 trucks. 50 to 70 HP at the rear wheels is just what I'm looking for to bring it up to the pickups Cummins HP/TQ ratings without interfering with the emissions. The folks that sold this to me were very acommodating about me having a C&C offering to try this one and to trade it out for the official C&C version. For me the price was right to give it a try. So far, so good. Ron

Sorry, didn't address comment about rail pressure. I believe the Edge Tow Pro adjusted the rail pressure. On my 03, never had EGT problems or any problems with any of the engine's components for 15 years and 208K miles. My niece has the truck now. I imagine this module is functioning similar to the Edge: adding HP/TQ within the specs and operating limits of the engine. Beyond that, we need one of the engineers on the forum to do a deep dive on the science happening here. This is just theory on my part, but on these complex Cummins engines, there is very likely little you can change in one parameter and not have an affect on another or others. There are tables with algorithms in the ECM that monitor, analyze and change, that I believe makes this balance out and work.

I remember lots of debate and discussion about the EdgeTow Pro manipulating rail pressure, but for me, it worked, was an easy install and was inexpensive. That's where I believe I am now.

It plugs in between the ECM and the injection controller. nothing plugs into obd ll. 4 plugs.

Hope the link works. Note performance up and Stealth appear to be Dr Performance modules. Also, I disconnected both batteries and grounds while connecting module into truck.

I mentioned that earlier in my post, comparing it to Edge Tow Pro, which manipulates fueling. So, increasing hp and tq on a C&C derated truck equals out, pretty much. No worries on the trans....Aisin has to be rated more than 930 lb ft tq, stock my engine puts out 750 lb ft, and if the module actually added 180 lb ft, it would be 930lb ft, the min rating of the trans.

I've BOMBED a 1993 W250, 2000 2500, 2002 3500, 2003 2500, 2009 4500, and now my 20175500. Had fueling modules on Edge Tow Pro 2000, Edge Tow Pro 2002 stacked with Smarty, Edge Tow Pro stacked with Smarty 2003, and Smarty on my 2009. You might say I'm experienced with Ram and Cummins and there's nothing I do without lots of studying. I'm very pleased with my 5500 with this upgrade so far, compared to all the previous trucks and mods.

We're having a Christmas party in the shop and have to pull the 5th wheel out. Might use it as an excuse to run up to the TX hill country and test it out.

Thanks for sharing your experiences and opinions. That's what this forum's all about.

cheers, Ron

To bad there are no hills in the hill country:)

Next big trip is the Everglades Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Northen Alabama, Northern Mississippi, and Southern Arkansas. Hurricanes and Mother in Law fracturing hip replacement and moving into assisted living facility placed a 6 month delay. Next trip out hopefully in Jan to Kerrville TX for a week or so. I love retirement and escaping out on the road.

Happy Trails, Ron

Personally I don't want to know what they are doing to rail pressure to get 90hp!!!

The 03 ran lower peak pressure than the 6.7, so it's not really as big of a deal as 04.5+ trucks.

Personally I've seen better mileage with lower cruise pressure than higher.
