Hey bajabob here is a good question would it make a difference if we got a group of us together and went down there ?say like 10 of us with the price of fuel I am sure I could round up enough to make it worth while to get some fuel from Mexico ? Just a thought .

I already asked that on entry 11, however I will go, cuz I will add a 60gal replacement to the stocker tank when I replace the sending unit that is bad, Lemme know when you get a few brothers together and we will make it a quick run, if you even want we can make a pit stop @ Adelitas, someone here will know what that is

I'm with you guys. I'll never drive down to Mexico again. We nearly got taxed by the federalies (sp) after bartering a sport fishing trip. I'm sure the federalie went and paid a visit to the guy who we booked the fishing trip through. Now on the other hand I'll gladly take a bargan cruise out of San Pedro or San Diego to Mexico. It's hard to beat a 7 day cruise for around $450. 00 PP.

I know that it's always a crap shoot when in Mexico in regards to a shakedown by the local cops. Still, I have a friend in Campo, CA. that goes to Baja through Tecate all the time in his 05' 4X4 Dodge Cummins flatbed and has NEVER had one problem in any vehicle in 30 years traveling there. He usually finds less that a dozen cars in the return lane about 11AM and he is in for fuel and out in under a half hour. Just for general info for those that want fuel from Mexico. My amigo with Customs told me that as long as the auxiliary tank is permanently plumbed into the trucks fuel system it's OK. NO tanks are allowed with filler nozzles. That is Customs. California sez NO gravity feed systems and NO transfer tanks plumbed to the truck by any method! California currently does not check you when entering from Mexico but that doesn't mean they won't start checking your plumbing in the future. Also, Tecate is a good place to fuel up. Cross the line... . turn right at the 2nd light... go one block to the first light and the diesel station is on your right! $2. 19 per gallon yesterday. 100 gallons is the maximum amount you can bring back to the States in an auxiliary tank.

Now as for being unpatriotic..... How about getting your teeth filled in Mexico? or your ranch truck painted? or a lobster dinner? Geez!!! $5. 00 a gallon vs. $2. 00 a gallon. Questions?

Northern Baja has quality diesel that is offloaded from a tanker in Ensenada. Southern 1/2 of Baja gets their diesel via a rusty barge from the mainland and delivered to La Paz. That fuel has quality issues... . WATER IN FUEL light not that uncommon. Some solids in the fuel too that the locals attribute to the barge trip from the mainland. Pack extra filters!

I'm glad your friend has experienced short lines coming back. I haven't found that to be the case nor have my co-workers who live in Tecate and cross daily. There currently are only two lanes operating according to my "resident" co-workers at the brand spanking new border station. Secondly,my neighbor has crossed weekly with his non-plumbed auxiliary tank complete with filler nozzle with "no problema". I can't argue with success and obviously your buddy is scoring the deal on the diesel,nor do I doubt the Customs regulations regarding returning with diesel. Perhaps slack enforcement has graced my neighbors fortune. I can tell you that I have waited for close to 1 & 1/2 hrs many times at Tecate due largely to our understaffed station. That is at all times of the day. Personally,I have run hundreds of gallons of Mex. diesel(Baja Norte variety) with zero negative effects. I can say that returning through Tecate with a "bling mobile",(newer Dodge w/popup and surfboards on top) certainly didn't help me in my numerous run-ins with the current crop of Feds. For my first thirty years of Baja trips,law enforcement down there were quite polite and non-menacing. The last ten have been increasingly ominous. Continued luck with you and anyone else who seeks the holy grail of diesel price available in Baja.

Your "daily commuters" trump my one friend. I'll stick with your info. My old 99 only draws the attention of the body shops guys looking to sell me a paint job. I forgot to mention that my Customs friend said the enforcement situation is in a state of flux and that things can change real quick..... and it wouldn't necessarily be for the better. The day after I drop $900 for a spiffy aluminum transfer tank system the in bed tanks will likely be banned from US entry. It's that darned "black cloud" that seems to follow me around and it rains on my parade from time to time.

The closest Pemex station in Otay is so popular that they're having to turn away all but regular diesel customers due to a lack of fuel. Demand is up 25% now. They've asked the plant in Rosarito to ship 25% more. I imagine if you travel a little further(and risk getting hopelessly lost) that's not the situation.

Bajabob, I beleive I have been to the one in Rosarito, its not on the strip "Benito Juarez" its over the bridge about a mile and a 1/2 down on the right hand side as if you were getting on to the toll road to go back home, but you keep going on the right, just over the toll roads over the bridge.

Im gonna try it on thurs. im off that day, will chime in after I do that...

If you cross at TJ,bear to the extreme right and take the Ensenada Quota road turnoff. It'll take you to the first toll booth at Las Playas. They've got diesel right there. Fillup and blast back and get in line. The new stations look like Am-PM's up here.

I'm waiting to see if Mexico can get fuel to the pumps on a consistent basis before I spring for a 100 gallon auxillary fuel tank system. I'm lazy. I just don't want to hastle with going to Mexico every time I need 40 gallons. A 130 gallon purchase would save on trips and save me some time. Until then, I'll buy 40 gallons a whack and waste the time. The price is just too good ($2. 20 today. )

A buddy of mine has a small business in San Diego and runs 3 diesel trucks. Some guy comes by every 3 or 4 days and tops off his tanks and charges him $3 a gallon. Capitalism at it's best! I don't know about the fuel quality but I imagine the seller just runs over the line and fills his 100 gal. tank and drives north and sells to his customers. He just repeats the cycle all day. He grosses $0. 80 a gallon so after a days work he likely makes a goodly pile of pesos.

In Craigslist last week,I spotted two ads for diesel at a good price by a couple of entrepeneurs in Chula Vista which to non-residents is darn close to the border. It was in the "RV" section.

Yeah,Mexican president Calderon is subsidizing the price of gas and fuel to the tune of $30 billion dollars in order to quell inflation. At this rate of consumption,that's going to be gone soon. Tough times all over.

At the bottom of the big hill, on the left side, there is a station - but the last time I was there - there was no diesel there. About how far from the border is the station you're talking about (in miles)?

"Capitalism at it's best!" Yes, you are correct and I like the phrase. It works everytime it's tried. If government would get out of our way and let the capitalist entrepreneurs among us go they'd solve the motor fuels price problem and a few others as well.
