I'm getting ready to change my transmission fluid after 16,000 miles of mostly towing my TT. Not wanting to pay $11. 25/qt for Mopar oil, I researched this site and TDR back issues. I'm a little confused.

In TDR issue 44, page 144 it states: "The NV5600 uses a synthetic 30-weight oil. Pennzoil Synchromesh, 30 weight synthetic fluid is an acceptable alternative. "

On the Pennzoil Synchromesh bottle ($4. 99) it does not say it is synthetic but it does state: "Meets Chrylser Specification MS-9224. Suitable for use in Chrylser transmissions requiring Part No. 4874464 (the specification and part number listed in the factory manual).

I cannot find a Pennzoil Syncromesh synthetic. Is the factory oil synthetic? Is TDR issue 44 incorrect? Can I use the Pennzoil Syncromesh non-synthetic without putting my transmission in harms way to save $37.

I am looking for the Pennzoil Synchromesh fluid here, haven't found any yet. Klenger, didn't you say on another thread you had used it with good results?

I've had no problems and notiiced no real difference from the stock fill. Many others have used it also. I got the last batch from AutoZone, but you can also buy it direct from Pennzoil.

I was confused too about the fact if it was synthetic or not... I assumed it was because of the article in TDR issue 44 that you mentioned. But I know klenger usually has his ducks in a row, so I'm sure he's right!

I had to do some searching to find the Penzoil too, ended up getting it at Autozone, but the Fargo store only keeps 2 quarts in inventory, so I had to order a bunch just to perform one oil change. When I ordered, I ended up getting 10 quarts, which should keep me going to two oil changes.

I noticed a fairly significant improvement in shift quality after my first oil change (at about 6,000 miles), and I plan to change once every year from now one (about every 30,000 miles).
